hello i am a slut for chronology projects and timelines, this is nothing compared to the comprehensive greek myth family tree project i’ve been neglecting building

timeline key / HUGE shoutout to the editors of the ff7 fandom wiki and their timeline(s), massively helpful -- backbone of this chronology version is a cross-reference between dated events in before crisis and crisis core: reunion

dates / ff7 compilation records 12-month calendar years in the format [era] - εγλ [year number] with calendar time measured in two-millennia eras; the years of which count upwards and end at 2000, at which point the following year begins the next era at 0001 -- for example, Zack is born [ μ ] - εγλ 1984, and Angeal dies [ ν ] - εγλ 0001

eras [ μ ] and [ ν ] = loosely, [ μ ] is the 2,000-year era preceding the Wutai War -- Jenova crash lands on Gaia at the start of this era and Zack, Aerith, and Cloud are all born at the end of this era; [ ν ] is the era in which most of playable ff7 compilation takes place, beginning shortly after the Wutai War

εγλ = for whatever reason part of the dating system, preceding the era year when writing the date; some fan theories interpret it as an abbreviation meaning “that which tells of this era of Gaia,” similar to the Christian “in the year of our Lord,” by analyzing the Greek letters that are used and suggesting that: ε could stand for εποχή (epoch, age, era), γ for Γαῖα (Gaia), λ for λέγω (verb, to tell a story)

i think it's fun that when sephiroth is asking if he's human its a genuine question. like he always assumed he wasn't so in a weird fucked up way it makes his treatment ok, but then when looking at the files in Shinra Manor he sees his birth mother's name be redacted even though the name Jenova isn't and that makes him wonder. Is he human? Was he human all along and his entire life has been a gross disregard of someone's personhood? Has he been a person all this time?

(then when he dies he finds out that no he's alien, but he still wants vengeance and maybe comes to realize he has always been a person, human or not)

i like to think Jenova tells Sephiroth stories about what the previous planets she ate were like and what might to expect in the next. This can be taken in a pragmatic sharing info for next invasion way or, what i prefer, dog mom babbling too her fur baby (sephiroth has hair, Jenova just has flesh that looks like hair)

Ok, so, we know Sephiroth has reportedly absorbed knowledge from the lifestream right? and Hojo eventually dies, yes?

What if Sephiroth already knows about Lucretia but of her parents she prefers Jenova? What if Jenova told Sephiroth about showing Lucretia visions of what Seph will achieve and instead of being proud and happy she was horrified? What if Sephiroth chooses Jenova because she was kept unwillingly(?) imprisoned unlike Lucretia who chose her stasis. What if she chooses Jenova because when reunited she refuses to ever let go again even in death, who unlike Lucretia did not give into despair and give up.

btw i hc that mako just makes red eyes more bright, so that's why in my tifa is the protag and sephiroth gets de-Jenova'd their eyes are still red even with mako in em.

Like, Hojo probably tested the effects of mako on a corpse on Vincent right? and he doesn't have the blue-green eyes.
