TdF day 21 I think

I fell off posting a bit there but I’ve still been spinning. I was mostly working on the same batt and only really had chance to spin in the even so by the time I was done for the day it was too dark to take photos. But the batt single is finished! Today I plied the green whiteface woodland from the other day, and I’ve also plied my spindle spin but it’s too late to wind that off the bobbin so pics of that tomorrow

I don’t feel like I’ve spun as much this year as I usually do, or as much as I wanted to. I think my final day is technically Tuesday but I think I’m just gonna chain ply this single tomorrow and then call it on my tour de fleece for this year!

Tour de Fleece has been going well this year. I'm happy to not be on an organized team but rather engaging and sharing with the groups I frequent the most and loosely following the Tour.

Here are some yarns I've been working on since the beginning of the month! Some are long-term projects that are finally coming to fruition, and some are new. I'm really pleased with my progress in making yarn, learning new techniques, and hybridizing techniques to work better for my spinning style.

As an aside, I want to say that I'm incredibly disappointed with the main TdF group that's still hosted on Ravelry and their choice to use genAI banners and welcome images throughout the team threads. Visiting the group and seeing that really solidified my choice to participate elsewhere.

TdF Day 16

for my challenge today - a taste of spindle time while on the regular family video call, and then powering through and winning at extreme bobbin chicken with my sock spin! genuinely down to the last gram of fiber I wasn't 100% sure if I could make it all fit without hitting the hard structural limit of collapsing into the brake band and tangling, but I pulled it off!!!

Tour de Fleece - Day 13-15

I admit, I barely spun anything on day 13. Instead I had a friend over to work on our all-stars run on Mario 64 we started after the last surgery I had. I spun about 10g maybe? on downtime.

For the weekend I went to the next bigger town and visited two dear friends of mine. I threw some wool into my drum carder beforehand so I wouldn't go there empty handed. I didn't get around much to spinning, but I did some more supported spinning practice! Somehow I got a feeling like there is no progress :(

Today I finally finished blondie here:

162m and I finally nailed the 11 WPI (unless it does some fluffing up when washing). Too bad I won't be using this in my coat after all. I learned it's actually not sorted for colour but bleached. Checks out. It feels bleached. But also quite soft for that..

Tour de Fleece Day 16 (2026)

Another insane craft day today. 268g of yarn spun and plyed, another 50g plyed and two bowls of yarn soup made.

Sunflower tapestry WIP. I focused on getting the 3rd sunflower and the bottom leaves completed. This represents approximately 2 weeks work.

An older painting I never got around to posting. I've always really enjoyed painting golden hour lighting especially on grey or white horses.

TDF Days 6-9

At least I think that's where we technically are!

I plied the blue yarn and skeined it up, along with the white yarn. This is another one that I'm hoping will fluff up a bit with a wash, but I'm going to wait to do that once TDF is done.

I'm really happy with how both of these turned out!

I had a tiny bit of two bobbins left over so I chain plied them. Why does it seem like the coolest colors always end up left out of the main skein? I really love the blue-green in this little guy. I keep thinking of new colors I want to play with and teal is really up there.

I'm pretty sure the most recent roving I finished was only dyed with yellow and blue, but the colors have blended really nicely into green in a lot of places. I'm sooo happy with how these look so far. I've played with blue and green roving before and it always looks so lovely.

Last but not least, what I currently have on the wheel. I didn't want to split the rolags into 3, so I'm just going to chain ply.

I may take a break from my Sea Glass spin to make some lace. I have a bit of black silk on a bobbin, but I want something a bit more colorful right now.

Tour de Fleece day 14!

25g spun, 25g plied, I realize this looks exactly like yesterday's pic lol. And it'll hopefully look the same tomorrow; 25 more grams to go.

After several days of letting it rest while I spin more, cleared my bobbin so that I could ply the next round.

It's just shy of 300 yards. I'm gonna have so much yarn! Current plan is a blanket.

TdF day 13-15

The Polwarth/Silk/Seacell yarn has been washed, and I can't wait to start knitting with it after TdF! (I should probably pick out a pattern in the meantime...) I'm also counting this for "use the precious skein combed top" in the @2026-fiber-arts-bingo

I also finished spinning and plying the Deichlamm:

And finally I tried making some less chonky rolags from some mill ends and leftovers (mostly Polish Merino, some Unspecified Sheep, bamboo, and tiny amounts of BFL and Sari silk).

Back to the Neverending Rambouillet. I spun for over 2 hours today and I'd be shocked if you told me I had spun more than 15 grams.

I'm gonna be so proud of it when it's done. Until that point i WILL gripe about it.

Came across this art installation, Liza Lou's Kitchen, at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC. It's a kitchen made of tiny glass beads, that artist Liza Lou did, taking 5 yrs. to complete, from 1991 - 1996.

My favorite part is the sink.

TdF Day 12

New blend for me from a new to me dyer! This is 70/30 Romney/Mohair and I’m really liking it! The finished yarn is going have that good good longwool drape for sure.

I initially planned to spin this as a 2ply fractal and broke down the braid for that but now I’m tempted to leave it as a singles yarn and break the like big fractal piece into small strips and have the singles be very short repeats of the gradient.

TdF day 17!

I was gonna take my second rest day today bc I’ve been feeling the effects of menstruation. But I decided to pick up my spindle and finally finish this spin

Tour de Fleece - Day 12

66/100g of 'brazlian wool' done! New spindle aquired! You can totally see which bobbin I spun peacefully at home and which I spun distracted at the spinning group.
