Cherri hasn’t had a backstory in this au yet, (to my belief) so I figured I’d throw my suggestion in:
As a child, she always stared too long at people, was always a bit too reckless with a knife, stared slightly too long at an open flame. Was just a bit too passionate about the “wrong” things.
One day, her mother was having a bad time. She was yelling at Cherri’s dad, something about not raising a monsters child. And Cherri got too upset.
The fire that burned down the house that day was deemed an accident by authorities, the sole survivor a miracle. Cherri didn’t remember a thing, just that one second she was staring up at her family and the next she was outside, firefighters asking if she was hurt.
She always suspected that the fire wasn’t just misfortune, but what else could it have been? And she didn’t have time to worry about that. She studied hard, kept the wrongness hidden, and got a scholarship. She was nice, not kind.
And things were looking up. She was close to graduating. She met the love of her life. She had a side job with this Organization that payed well.
And then, in the process of beating up Owen during his attempted kidnapping, she loses her eye. And the next time she gets too emotional, a fire sparks in its place.
Abolish says that she’s a fire spirit, or at least partially one. Cherri convinces him not to tell the organization to avoid the paper work. Really, it’s because she doesn’t want anyone looking into that house fire so long ago, the one that she now more then suspects wasn’t an accident. What would they think of her then?
When the fire erupts from Cherri’s eye, she doesn’t see from it. She only detects what near her can be burned.
She wonders if that’s how she knew she could make her parents arguing stop. If little Cherri just wanted it to end and recognized two threatening, flammable objects in front of her.
(Wow that got long and dark very fast I’m sorry)
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
This is canon now.
It's so funny to me how determined the series is to pretend Hiccup hasn't killed people/isn't capable of killing people when necessary.
They act like he wasn't out there every day of the week burning and sinking dragon hunter ships with his friends in rtte. He just seems to be very stuck in the mindset of: 'if I don't see the bodies, then who's to say I've done something as morally reprehensible as murder?'
Like he literally caused multiple of Krogan's henchmen to be electrocuted at once and fall off their dragons but he didn't actually see their bodies hit the water so it's fine.
But he can't directly kill someone. He struggles when it's not some faceless soldier, and he has to look at or speak to them knowing he needs to take their life.
Unless Toothless or Astrid are in immediate danger. Then all reservations about killing and violence disappear (rightfully so).
"And they were found like this, you say?" "Well, not exactly, but near enough. Have Braya show you the sketches."
During NOAH's excursions into the Crystal Tower two bodies were discovered in a control chamber on one of the upper floors. The Sons of Saint Coinach recorded the find and removed the remains for further study. Though their identities are a mystery, they are thought to have died before or perhaps during the Fourth Umbral Calamity.
The exact cause of death too is unknown. Although a peculiar red crystal recovered with the bones may contain clues- if any can decipher them. The only person to handle it closely nearly collapsed, later reporting being overcome by a sense of terrible anguish.

The question has to be asked... what fictional deaths... it could be TV, movies, theater, novels, etc... but what fictional deaths moved you to tears?
@tveitertotwrites go for it! lol
