Time to play chess again and support the killing of Ukrainians
FIDE has reinstated Russian player Sergey Karjakin in its ratings after he had been disqualified since March 2022. The Russian chess player has returned to the International Chess Federation (FIDE) rating list.
After the start of the full-scale invasion, FIDE disqualified Karjakin, and last year the European Union and Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council imposed sanctions on him.
Sergey supported the occupation of Crimea in 2014 and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, is a member of Russia’s Federation Council representing occupied Crimea, and was also part of Vladimir Putin’s initiative group during the presidential election.
Karjakin is currently ranked 10th in the FIDE ratings.
It is also worth noting that FIDE’s president is Russian official Arkady Dvorkovich.
