what if there was a spell where everyone forgot who buffy was and willow was the only one who remembered… willow trying to explain to xander that it’s always been the THREE of them and he makes some crack about having two hot chicks as his best friends. tara gets jealous bc why is willow so obsessed with this girl anyway. giles thinks willow is crazy.

oh my god oh my god oh my goddddd. willow goes over to the summers’ house and joyce doesn’t know who she is! i will say i don’t think tara would get too jealous, or if she did she wouldn’t let it show, bc tara is very good at being fair and mature and she’s only ever jealous in a playful jokey way. but it would be the SUBTEXT. we would KNOW. in this altered reality maybe giles really is just the school librarian?! gosh this is so good. the spell could be willow’s fault but i honestly think it’s more fun if it’s an outside force so it’s not willow feeling guilty and it’s more willow being a detective. she’s finding the clues! she’s piecing ’em together!

8. do you have kids? do you want them?

I don't have kids, but the first kid of that generation was born in September (my niece) so it's feeling more real recently than it ever has. I definitely want kids. I didn't think I did most of my adolescence, and then I realized I was trans and that I could be a dad instead of a mom, and everything clicked. Pregnancy was one of my biggest fears (thank you hysto) so I very quickly knew if I were to ever have kids, they'd be adopted. I feel like more people my age, queer people especially, are choosing to be childfree and I think that's great. I really think you should only have kids if you actively want to be a parent and I really do, so a few years ago I started only dating people who wanted kids. My current partner and I both want to be dads and we talk very openly about wanting to have children when we're both in our mid to late 30s.

18. have you ever changed fields in your career or education?

I am currently going back to school to do this. I've worked as a graphic designer for the better part of ten years, and the state of the industry does not make me happy. I have been watching the limited pool of interesting jobs gets fewer and fewer, freelancing feels unsustainable, and now with every company chomping at the bit to save money through using genAI, my work is just not fulfilling and doesn't feel sustainable. It's funny you asked both of these because thinking about the financial feasibility of raising a child with the current state of my career got me to seriously consider why I am still in this field. I do not make enough money, even with a partner, to raise a family, and I don't think I will. A few years ago I fell in love with ASL. I didn't learn it intending to make a career, I've just always wanted to know how to sign, but the more I learned the more passionate I became about it. I'm currently in a two-year interpreter training program to be a certified ASL interpreter and I'm hoping to switch to interpreting full time in about five years.

the way you talk about yuta/rika reminds me of the way you talk about scottmaddy, in that it’s a relationship where they conform to heterosexuality in a way that makes nobody happy (due to a lack of agency in the decision?) despite their genuine affection for each other. but since i know nothing about jjk, i could be way off base here.

M i have LITERALLY made a rika-maddy venn diagram bc after months of thinking about yuta and rika i also realized this! you are 100% correct!! no one is happy despite really loving each other.

the question of 'lack of agency' is an interesting one, given much of yuta's character arc involves him having to learn to take responsibility for things that are his fault (including rika), but it was at least an initially unintended harm.

Top 5 books that stand up to regular rereading

unfair!

the queen's thief series by megan whalen turner. reread value unmatched. the ideal way to read this series is to go back to the first book and start over between each book, and you would still be picking up on new details.

the odyssey of homer. i have read this in different translations, and reread the translations i own and like.

the lord of the rings by j.r.r. tolkien. it's a time commitment even for me (in some ways moreso because i'm familiar enough with the story to lay it down for weeks at a time) but i like to keep tolkien in the rotation.

pride and prejudice by jane austen. always gives me the same thrill i got when i first read it.

fire and hemlock by diana wynne jones. maybe a controversial pick but i read this for the first time in 2020 and seemingly can't stop reading it.

honorable mention to ella enchanted by gail carson levine, which is probably the book i have reread most in my life, considering when i started.
