Catching Fire! Filipino Activism for Social Change

The new Cesar Chavez movie released last weekend brought to the table the erasure of Filipinos from the history of the greatest labor rights struggle in U.S. history. What does this mean for Filipino Americans?

In this workshop, delegates will learn the importance of fighting for change and making history through activism by examining the lives of the Delano manongs. Delegates will understand the necessity for building a movement with the support of their communities. If we’re not writing our own histories, someone else will.  

Finally, delegates will learn that they can be agents of social change and the writers of people’s history. Delegates simultaneously build skills and gain experience while creating concrete changes to the issues of our community through activism. The youth are responsible for carrying on the flame of the previous generations’ hopes and dreams for social change. You may not be able to put this on your resume, but we’ll be able to put this in our history books.
