Serious question: how do we read books in our target languages?
Like, does anyone have a strategy?
Do you guys only consume stories you're already familiar with or does it matter to you?

summer language challenge
original post by @notglot here
who you are
im caspar, im 16 and i live in the uk. i love languages, but have just dropped spanish after gcse, but i want to learn more and travel the world and meet so many new people + cultures!
your target language
finnish
why you are choosing that language
im half english half finnish, and whilst ive lived in the uk all my life and frequently visited finland, the extent of my vocabulary is ‘i want milk’ ‘lets go to the park’ ‘im hungry’ and ‘goodnight’ and ‘hug’, and i’ve never had a proper chance to pick up the language, i love love finland and i would like to study there for uni, so i figured this would be a good place to start
what your goal is
by the end of the summer i’d like to be able to understand the structure of the language, have a simple conversation with a native speaker (aka my mum) and maybe be able to read a childrens book in the language
how long you have for break/summer
about 6/7 weeks now, i go back to school on the 5th september
if anybody have any tips, advice, etc, please let me know bc i know i’ll need it! i’ll aim for an update in a week from now, and hopefully every wednesday throughout!

thinking of starting a sort of language/mental health youtube channel, in which
i will talk about the struggles and stigma people with adhd face in italy, especially adults, and i will do so in italian 🇮🇹
i will record my progress in the languages im studying, so prevalently finnish 🇫🇮, since i (almost) live in finland and all (but also some japanese 🇯🇵 and russian 🇷🇺 along the way, when i have settled in)
i will rant about my special interests (in english 🇬🇧)
everything will be subbed in english ofc!!
idk if u have any tips on how to start a yt channel/wanna help me out/think this is a good idea just drop an ask or reply to this post!!
thank u 💛
i know this might not seem a lot to many of my mutuals and followers, but to reach this follower goal after only a few months While being awfully inactive, idk it feels like a milestone.
my adhd is a bitch, and im finally in finland with my gf so i am not studying that much atm, but i wanna thank y’all from the bottom of my heart!! bear with me, imma bout to start a finnish course here in turku soon and take japanese lessons so!! im gonna be more active very soon!! 💟
