Hell yeah!!

We've been struggling to get our old Fire tablet to work (was a gift years ago, ended up not using it much) for over a week now

For context, it's 5th generation (from 2015), and hadn't been charged/turned on in YEARS (literal) so it's old as fuck but in decent condition

It was so outdated, that it took two days of just updating software before we could even begin to try figuring it out - none of the apps would work, websites wouldn't load, ect

Today, the update that made the software functional again has downloaded

After everything

We were able to find the Fire's version of Coughdrop, download it, and get it to sign in

We can use our tablet as a designated AAC device now

No more worrying about our phone dying and not being able to communicate

We can use our phone for phone things, and still always have a voice

We are so happy

We know nothing about technology, and my partners couldn't figure it out either, so we were starting to lose hope

Fortunately, it was just a matter of cycling through all the updates!

Don't Buy Kindle

So in July I bought my son an @amazon Fire 7 tablet. Price was right and he was very pleased until November when all the sudden it stopped charging. Fortunately for me I got the year long insurance. So I got him a "new" one through the insurance. New meaning refurbished. Now it's been just over 2 weeks and guess what? Same problem. So I call Amazon. We reboot the tablet and charge it for 30 min. Then they will call me back. They didn't. I called them an hour later. Btw the reboot did nothing. So I ask them what can we do. They offer me 15% off a new tablet. So basically they want me to buy another piece of garbage. I ask them if they stand by their products, she said yes but the warranty is up. They warranty the tablet for 3 MONTHS! So I asked if the life expectancy is 4 months? Anyway the bottom line is this, Amazon's policy is to screw their customers. They do not stand by their own products and don't care beyond 3 months. Please do not buy any kindle devices or Fire tablets from them for your own good. Please share.

While I am on the subject of hating amazon. My fire tablet decided that its silk browser was no longer going to allow me to browse photos on a Google search by telling me my browser is out of touch. Whereupon trying to Update the browser I learn that there are no updates for the browser and there is no support no updates, no nothing. So I downloaded firefox And I am Working around trying to learn how to use that and Make that my default browser. You've heard of speed dating. Now get a load of speed eshitification. tablet is only like 3 yrs old. Zero to unsupported in the blink of an eye as Jeff lounges in the Caribbean on his umpteen trillion dollar sailboat. Where is a orca when you need one?

Pretty sure this isn't the safest set up ever, but if it charges the tablet I'm happy.

I don't know what I need to do to fix it. Like... can the charger port be dragged outwards a bit? *Sigh* This is what I do in my kitchen on a Saturday afternoon. :)

Fortune cookie is the way to go, it's letting me play games I wouldn't normally look at.

I remembered I was repeating past mistakes by using a keyboard case with the tablet. It's not a laptop, treating it as such is a bad idea. So I got an amazon branded case so it has a thinner profile and I can use it vertically. Even reading manga again.

Maybe there's a greater lesson about taking things as they come.

Also between the case and audible, is bezos getting his money's worth?

Well, I did it again. I used my chrome book for a couple hours, and now I'm a wreck.

This whole on doing a game boy cleanse, only playing game boy, and as of this week, game boy color games, for at least the rest of this week. Which, speaking of... Were any of these games good? Okay fine, tetris and picross. But like... We don't have the game boy to thank for Pokemon. Game boy should be thanking Pokemon. Hell, Pokemon is probably responsible for the GBA.

CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK TO SNES.

I keep trying to fix my old chromebook.

I'm not going to sit here and claim the fire 7 is god's gift to man. I mean, sure. It's leagues above the stuff I grew up using. But that was 20 years and an able body ago. I would love a cheap, lightweight piece of equiment that could efficiently multi task.

For a while it was my chromebook. But it wasn't the best. It was unreliable for retro gaming. So I took off the guard rails and put linux mint on there. Since then it's been an endless parade of disapointing os and malfunctioning sound card.

The fire 7 isn't as versatile, but it's a reliable workhorse. I guess it's the same thing with my phone. I'd rather have a dirt cheap motoralla than the hand me down samsung s20+ from my wife. Because at least then I'd have a headphone jack.

Although if I'm really being honest all I would really want is a brand new 4s. Peak design of smart phones.
