First Meditation - Rene Descartes
Rene decides to begin his journey into separating his false beliefs from reality. Instead of tackling this by finding a false element in every single belief, he goes for the foundation on which the empire if built. He delves into this by first speaking of what is considered real and what is false… objectively.
Composite blocks in life, such as colors, textures and objects, are real as they are the simplest constituents of larger builds and formative ideas. An artist who attempts to develop something that is entirely novel, does so by utilizing these composite blocks … the colors and textures, shapes, etc. that we all know.
Further, he makes the claim that physics, astronomy, medicine and any science that studies/questions composite objects are doubtful. Whereas, math, geometry, etc. are certain.
So, how does one justify the existence of god?
He approaches this from the atheistic perspective first:
God is fiction
Theists arrived to the conclusion of god through false assumptions, beliefs, etc., because humans are easily deceived.
Descartes tries to tackle this not by doubling down on his theism, but approaching this from a different perspective, one from which he is intently being deceived by a demonic creature set on leading men like him astray. Here is how it follows:
He is like a prisoner who is enjoying freedom, but only through sleep.
His acquaintance with his body, objects, senses, etc. are not really there, he is just deceived into believing they are really there and a measure/tool to interact with the real world.

Your First Meditation – How To Approach It
Starting out meditating can be quite challenging. First you have to get past the part of your brain that tells you that you can’t meditate, it’s not for you, it’s too hard. Then when you finally allow yourself to do your first meditation, you have to work past the realisation that perhaps it’s not what or how you thought it would be.

We all know deep in our hearts that it…

I am like a prisoner who happens to enjoy an imaginary freedom in his dreams and who subsequently begins to suspect that he is asleep and, afraid of being awakened, conspires silently with his agreeable illusions
Rene Descartes, First Meditation
I am here quite alone, and at last I will devote myself sincerely and without reservation to the general demolition of my opinions.
First Meditation, Descartes
Descartes: First Meditation
"But from time to time I have found that the senses deceive, and it is prudent never to trust completely those who have deceived us even once."
I am like a prisoner who happens to enjoy an imaginary freedom in his dreams and subsequently begins to suspect that he is asleep and, afraid of being awakened, conspires silently with his agreeable illusions.
