Thought of the day: Put on your shoes and Go
Why are some people more motivated than others? How did they get that way and stay that way?
Why is it that when we KNOW something is good for us, we try our best to avoid it? Why is getting up a few minutes earlier or taking a few minutes out of the day to take a walk, do a workout, or fix a REAL meal so exhausting? The thought of the food prep, or changing into workout clothes can deter someone from doing something that will make them feel better, de-stress, and help them live longer.
On the other side of things you have the people that are "fanatics". The ones that are up at 5am because that is the only time they will have throughout their day of kids, errands, full time job and spouse duty. They wear a smile on their face and seem to have life together. They aren't bored people with nothing to do, they are just as "busy" as everyone else but choose to prioritize their day. They make themselves important.
When does fitness become part of your life?
Motivation is a daily struggle. Although I have been called one, I don't classify myself as a workout "fanatic". Being healthy isn't an option or a choice, it is second nature. This means I eat dinner later than 6pm sometimes, I look for hotels with fitness centers when I go on vacation, and get excited when UnderArmour goes on sale. I am not fanatical about fitness or healthy living, I rarely think about it - I am nothing without my health so it is up to me and ONLY me to be responsible for it.
So what stops people? Many hate the sweat, or the effort, or the struggle but if we were all honest we all hate the judgement we put on ourselves. You are your biggest critic, you fall short of the line that you set for yourself. That first workout, first meal prep or first cardio session is HARD. It takes time to recover, cook, and wash the sweat off. It is uncomfortable, makes you face your weaknesses, points out your flaws, and leaves you feeling like you are in an up hill battle. Why continue?
YOLO: You only live once. That is fact, so face it. Exercise and eating right isn't meant to put you into a restricted box of rules, do's and don't or deprive you from food. It is meant to ADD to your life, allow you to eat MORE, enjoy life MORE and get MORE out of each day. It is scientifically proven, medically proven, spiritually proven to help your life. There is no argument against this type of lifestyle. This way of living will bring out the best in yourself, prove to you that you can do things you thought were impossible, and have you achieving goals you had never set. You will learn more about yourself, your worth and your self confidence that you might have ever wanted to know.
My professional advice is this: Stop thinking, you will always talk yourself out of it. This isn't something that you can procrastinate and do later. Wait for that later and it will be too late. That is how this particular aspect of life works. Put your shoes on and GO.
