March AU Madness 03
This isnât so much of an AU as it is a prompt, but whatever, I love board games, fight me.
monopoly au (x)
âBucky. Bucky. Bucky!â The back of Tonyâs hand connects with Buckyâs shoulder as he shouts the soldierâs name for the third time.
âWhat.â Bucky still doesnât look up from his phone and Tony groans in frustration, throwing up his hands and storming off to get more coffee.
âItâs your turn.â Bruce fills in.
âYou guys are still playing monopoly? I thought Stark won, like, an hour ago.â Sam walks past the dining room table on his way to the kitchen. His question is answered with a collection of grumbles and he keeps walking to rummage in the pantry.
âCanât we just give the win to Tony?â Steve says, âI mean, he owns half the board anyway.â
âWhy I never!â Tonyâs returned, the hand not holding his coffee mug is clutching at the reactor. âCaptain America, a quitter? Not in my house heâs not.â
âNatasha was smart to throw the gameâŚâ Bruce mutters, wincing when he catches Tonyâs attention.
âShe what now? Itâs not a real win if I didnât earn it!â
Sam follows Tony from the kitchen, bag of Cheetos in hand instead of coffee, and sits in the seat that had been his when they had started the game. âIâm surprised something this stressful hasnât brought out Big and Green.â He gives Bruce a playful nudge.
âIâm not exactly very competitive about this.â
âNot competitive my ass!â Clint shouts from across the table. âIf you had traded me Atlantic Avenue, we wouldnât be in this mess!â
Bruce shrugs, but his sly smile gives away his true feelings about the game. âYou didnât have anything I wanted.â
âCome on, Buck,â Tony tries to hand Bucky the dice, âMonopoly was a thing back in your day, I thought you and Steve would like this pick for game night.â
âYeah, it was a thing back in our day.â Without looking away from his StarkPhone, Bucky takes the dice in a single hand, dropping them in a half-assed roll over the board. âAnd it was fun until you showed me what Mario Kart was. Now itâs boring.â
âYou landed on Park Place, Buck.â Steve sounds jealous as he moves the tiny cannon piece.
Suddenly, the phone is down and Bucky is up. âYes! I donât have money for that hotel shit. Here ya go, Tony.â He slides his remaining properties to Tony and makes a break for the elevator, throwing up a peace sign with his metal hand. âSee ya losers!â
âYouâre the loser!â Tony shouts back, but the elevator doors close. âBecause he⌠lost.â He looks back at the rest of the table, the remaining Avengers in various states of exasperated. Except Sam, the only one still here by choice, looking unfairly amused. âDo you guys really want to quit that bad?â
âYes.â Steve, Clint, and Bruce chorus.
âFine.â Tony waves a hand and Clintâs off into the vents before anyone else can even get up. Soon after, Tony can hear Bruce making tea in the kitchen. The dejected billionaire slumps forward, resting his cheek on his crossed arms over the board.
Steve stands and gives Tony an awkward pat on the shoulder. âIf it makes you feel better, you get choose next weekâs game. Since, you know, you won.â
âItâs not a real win.â Tony grumbles and Sam laughs.
âOh man, if they canât handle Monopoly, how are we ever going to get them into Catan?â
