This morning's surface map indicates the presence of a cold front extending from New England, traversing the Ohio Valley, and reaching into the Southern Plains. This front is expected to usher in cooler and less humid weather across much of the eastern United States throughout the weekend. However, ahead of the front, severe weather conditions are anticipated. Severe thunderstorms are likely to develop from eastern Pennsylvania through New York and New Jersey, extending into the Mid-Atlantic States. Additionally, regions in northern Pennsylvania, New York, New England, and southern Maine can expect further rainfall today, contributing to a notable drop in temperatures across these areas. Thunderstorms are also forecasted to form across the High Plains, stretching from Wyoming down through Colorado, New Mexico, and western Texas. Surface Map: The front coming through the Ohio Valley will produce heavy thunderstorms from parts of the Northeast into the Mid-Atlantic. Locally 1-2 as much as four inches of rain may occur and that can cause some significant flash flooding problems especially in the big cities from New York City through Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington. A system off the east coast of Florida will move across Florida the next 24 hours and that system could become our next tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico later this week.
