i wonder how they would react when they find out about riza
It is super interesting!!! Especially because it would have a huge impact on the series. Like, if the Elrics went to study with him when they canonly went to teacher, that would be like the second half of 1908, but Berthold died in 1905ish in canon, and after his death, Riza showed Roy flame alchemy, Roy became a state alchemist and was sent to ishval and Riza followed. In this au, I assume Berthold survives long enough to teach the Elrics. And if so?? Riza would most likely not show Roy the secrets of flame alchemy, then he’d never become the flame alchemist, and wouldn’t have had the role he did in ishval and neither would Hawkeye. It would totally change their backstories!! Would Roy still want to become fuhrer, would he and Riza have lost touch if she didn’t feel the need to protect him and follow him to ishval because she showed him that alchemy?? OR Riza still could have shown it to Roy in secret, and state alchemists were deployed to ishval the same year Ed and Al trained, so maybe both things would happen concurrently, with the boys learning from Berthold and Roy and Riza attempting to hide what they’d done from him.
OR!!!! Have the boys train years earlier, and they grow up there with Roy and Riza being like older siblings while Roy also apprentices, then Berthold dies, Ed and Al go back to resembool, Roy and Riza go to ishval and it plays out like in canon, the Elrics perform human transmutation....and Roy and Riza end up in Resembool and find the boys like they did in canon but it’s VERY DIFFERENT NOW because they KNEW EACH OTHER but they’re all very different and scarred now.
while i’m thinking about it, if fma were star wars, state alchemists would be inquisitors, the rest of the military crew would be imperial officers, and the end goal would be roy mustang and the gang’s military coup against emperor palpatine and then afterwards them trying to rebuild the empire into something better
A list of my (mostly Kimvy) AUs, more for my reference than anything. I’m putting what I’ve published for each of these here too, just so I can get everything organized and maybe get inspired to keep writing for one of these.
Golden Child: Kimblee saves Winry’s parents against his better judgement and finds himself becoming grudgingly friendly with the Golden Trio. (I love this one because villains-turned-familial is one of my favourite tropes but I’m very strapped for ideas at the moment...) (published under the same name, hopefully a WIP)
Kimvy Superhero AU: A kind of weird one... Envy is the over-confident superhero fighting those who rebel against the government and cause disorder in the city, and Kimblee is the scientific genius that comes up with their tech and worries over their recklessness. ( “Strength” in Ambivalence)
The Open Jar: Kimblee takes Envy’s jar from Mei on his way to rescue Pride, and they get up to various shenanigans and into many arguments along the way. ( “Irony” in Ambivalence and “Value” in Quandary)
Still in the End: There’s only one human left on the face of Amestris after the Promised Day, and that’s Kimblee, and he doesn’t quite understand why the homunculi have given him this special treatment if no one else has received it. (Yours)
The Ice Cream Parlour: Everybody’s alive and decently happy, and they all frequent Greed’s ice cream parlour, which is his latest buy in his quest for domination of all of the businesses in the city. (Can be found if you dig far enough back in the “my fanfiction” tag on my blog; it’s too silly to put anywhere else but it’s a very happy world and I love it a lot.)
Domestic-ish: An offshoot of the above, but less cracky and Kimvy-centric. It’s more of my vent universe and I make them do whatever, but it’s mostly about working out personal issues for them (and me), marriage, family issues, depression, anything that I want them to go through. I’ll probably not publish much from here (it’s all super garbage and OOC), but I do spend a lot of time in this world. ( “Together” and “Cupid Come” in Ambivalence)
No Rush: Kimblee’s allowed to take his time about getting Scar for some inexplicable reason, and Envy hangs out with him a lot during this strange time gap. It’s mostly about the two of them getting to know each other better and noticing the differences in each other after their approximately seven-year separation after Ishval. Kimblee’s quieter and more contemplative away from the battlefield, and Envy’s mystery is somewhat diminished this close to the rest of their family, so there are new facets of their personalities to explore. This is one of my favourite AUs, but I don’t like writing in it because I have no good reason for why Kimblee is allowed to take his sweet time doing his job. If I could get around that I’d have a ton of ideas for things to write in it. ( “Trust” in Quandary, “Memory’s Mystic Band” in Ambivalence, and possibly “Sleep” from the same)

Delinquent AU–Modern AU with no alchemy where Ed is a young teen living on the streets, trying to support his brother and is constantly gets arrested for minor crimes. After trying to pedel a drug called “Philosopher’s stone” to support Al, he is once again arrested, but now Roy Mustang is appointed as his parol officer. Roy understands his circumstances and doesn’t want the boy to be stuck in the system forever, so he tries to help him, but Ed is reluctant to let him as he feels he has no future.
Immigrant AU–an AU where instead of ending up in Munich during conquerors of shambala, he wakes up on a boat bound for America. He has no idea where he is and when he ends up at the port, because he is underage and there is no relative there waiting for him, they threaten to send him back to Europe. Ed panics, not understanding a lick of English, when a german woman named Riza sees this. Thinking the boy was trying to escape some sort of terrible life back in Europe, she claimed he is her younger brother and that they were going to live with her husband in America. After that, Edward is brought back with her to live with Roy and Riza, helping pay rent as he tries to figure out a way home.
Apprentice AU–instead of going to Izumi, the boys run away from home to central, looking for a state alchemist to apprentice them. Roy takes pity on the strange boys wandering the streets and takes them in until they can find a proper teacher, ending up becoming said teacher in the process.
The night before AU: AU where shows up just before the boys end up trying to commit the taboo, causing him to stop them.
I haven't been able to draw lately but when I do, I have this idea for a FMA AU where Ling is secretly a cat chimera because that explains him a lot really (jumping in through a window, having a huge appetite, perching on roofs, mooching-all very cat stuff). I'm sure someone has thought of this already.
Perhaps he got like that because of an assassination attempt that left him severely injured even at like, a metaphysical level, so the top alkahestrists in Xing had to turn him into a chimera to save his life. (However they may have also done it rather than seek an alternative to decrease his chances at the throne by basically turning him into a "monster"). So in this AU, Ling tries to hide his eyes often on purpose to cover any glare from a tapetum or to make sure people don't see he has slit pupils. Most of his cat features are hidden until released.
Greed's first reaction is of course "Sweet, a chimera, I love chimeras!" when he first meets Ling in his body. Greed 2.0 flaunts the cat traits at times and likes to look like this ferocious humanoid cat demon vampire beast. He likes to do snarl matches with Heinkel.
Both of them do purr when petted.
Homunculus!Izumi anon here again. Evil Fuhrer Izumi is an absolutely amazing and terrifying idea. She can already kick everyone's ass 50 different ways, so everyone is gonna be doomed when they eventually have to fight... I wonder how Sig and Selim would be involved? Maybe Sig was lied to about Izumi actually being dead? And she was just in coma and they injected the stone into her then? Sorry if I'm rambling, I just love the idea.
Or a total-au where izumi has always been wrath/the fuhrer, sig is just the human husband, and Ed and Al are her adopted sons/homunculi (in my head they’re both pride because the idea of little 8/9 year old Ed and Al dressed all proper but sending out shadow daggers together is too freaking cool)
Had the weirdest dream where father took young ed and al with him after trisha probably died and im thinking now how interesting an au of that could be, them working for the enemy and of course my first thought is angst potential
BRUUUHHHH!?!??!?! THAT IS SUCH A COOL IDEA THO???? SOMEONE WRITE A FIC I’D BE ALL OVER IT......like.....so many questions.....would ed and al be.....like Evil.....would Roy find and recruit them still??
