Sparda [Force Edge]
bug man with cool sword
One thing I do wonder is how did The Vatican come into the possession of The Force Edge? Did Sparda give his sword to the Church? (I really hope so cause that sounds so cool that Sparda would intrust his sword to the Catholic Church) or was probably unearthed by archaeologists and and sold to the Church, but I really hope its the former.
Sparda Devil Arm. As it appears in the DMC1's weapon select menu.

I occasionally think about how ironic and sad it is that the very first weapon you get in the very first Devil May Cry and also the one that's the most important to the overall lore of the series, the Force Edge, is also one of the worst weapons to use in the whole franchise due to lack of any new moves to learn with it and inability to go into DT with it!
Little wonder most of the promo stuff for DMC 1 favoured showing Dante with Alastor instead! Thank Sparda for playable Vergil in 3 SE actually making it useful!
Devil May Cry headcanon: Force Edge
The Force Edge is not a one of a kind blade, it is a standard issue blade given to all Dark Knights. It's property to shapeshift is based on the wielder, which is why the blades' awakened form take the name of the wielder.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sketched up a quick Force Edge.
