The character Kevin Bacon plays in 'X Men: First Class' could have just as easily been an adaptation of Mister Sinister/Nathaniel Essex and would have hit a lot harder as such, rather than Sebastian Shaw. They could have saved Sebastian Shaw for another story.
The New Mutants review
You know what I just realized? In all the haste of this week I completely forgot to write a review of The New Mutants. I got a very lucky chance to watch the movie in a safe atmosphere with only a few quiet people. So I’m ready to talk.
Spoilers ahead.
Possible fan moments ahead.
Definite acceptance of past mistakes also ahead.
Overall thoughts (spoiler-free)
Let’s start with what I expected vs what I got. There is a certain serenity in not having any expectations from a movie. I was pretty sure I’m going to like it no matter what. It was supposed to give me nostalgia about Fox-men, and show me the team for the first time since X-men Evolution (remember how they were all there?). And that the movie has certainly delivered. Sure, the imperfections were there, many were disappointed with whitewashing Bobby (as much as the decision itself saddens me, the actor did a great job, and I’d say he deserved the part either way), there was a confusing tv spot with Illyana’s slurs that alarmed viewers (I gave it benefit of the doubt), and then there was the feeling that we might never even see the movie.
But watching it was a joyful process. You never get kicked out of the experience by something being awfully off, you stay present, and take a journey with the characters, which is something I honestly didn’t expect. A team project like this one always leaves some characters on the sidelines, but here it felt like you got a good enough first impression. I’m sure there were plans on taking it further, and exploring things we haven’t yet seen, but even if you take The New Mutants as a complete standalone, it works.
Once the actors settled into their parts, got to know the characters, it was a very comfortable experience, they seemed very natural, and needless to say, I would like to see them reprise these roles if that’s in any way possible.
Details (full of spoilers)
Well my fellow Nightcrawler fans, hate to inform you but don’t keep your hopes up for this movie regarding Kurt any more...
spider-man: far from home
there is one word that just made me smile like a crazy person MULTIVERSE We are getting legit multiverse on the big screen. First of all - all concepts, no matter how crazy are on the table. People are ready for all the crazy and they go with multiverse (also the fact that mystero is from another verse is a bit of a nose with the title X”D) okay, but it made me smile for one major reason They technically can bring FOX-men into MCU. With multiverse they can just grab them and throw in. And AND it’s so funny bc with it every marvel movie is part of the same world. Just different Universe/ Studio lelz. That... is so good. We can have deadpool just dropping in MCU now. Anytime. Just like that, commenting how his universe was jus bought but their universe. X”D It... writes itself aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (gonna get some tea and calm down now. please ignore me, I just love multiverse in MCU)
Marvel Studios will reboot the X-Men for the MCU but Dark Phoenix star Sophie Turner has now revealed a surprising reason why she believes t
Srsly? This is Marvel we're talking about. They know their intellectual property better than anyone. The notion that they couldn't handle thier own creations is ludicrous.
Listen, Sophie Turner is a very entertaining actress. I enjoy her work. It's not her fault she was miscast into a role by an inept studio that has shown time and time again they simply don't understand these characters. Sure, there is a history of financial success with this franchise. You don't get to be the 6th highest grossing movie franchise of all time by producing garbage, but that doesn't mean that someone else....perhaps the NUMBER ONE HIGHEST GROSSING MOVIE FRANCHISE OF ALL TIME WHO CREATED THE IP IN THE FIRST PLACE couldn't do a better job.
The X-Men, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and every other IP that Marvel sold the rights to in the 80s and 90s need to return where they belong.
The sooner Marvel Studios takes back control of thier own IP, the sooner we can all forget about the FoX-Men, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, etc...
So Fox Studios just pushed the absolute dumpster fire that is X-Men: Dark Phoenix out to June 2019, and I'm just over here in my room giggling like a little boy.
An evil little boy with horrible burns and lightning fingers, but you get the idea.
