I'm *sure* I shared this off someone else a couple of weeks back, but I can't find it now, so I'm posting it also.

I have a whole pet rant about how irritating it is when someone covers a song and it's just a bloodless imitation of the original. I would rather hear something overwrought than something boring; this means I've had Within Temptation's histrionic cover of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" on playlists for twenty years, but the Ataris' cover of "Boys of Summer" mostly gets sneers.

A cover should be transformational, or it shouldn't be made.
