Theres a lot of (very very deserved) love for libraries out there, and definitely keep spreading the good word about that, but I don't see people talking at all about state conservation departments.
If you want some more outdoorsy-flavored free activities, check out your local State Department of Conservation. I won't dox myself about it, but there's tons of free activities and classes that are hosted through there.
Do you like birds? Check if there's any bird banding going on. Do you want to learn archery? They might have a free class about it! Native flower gardens? Wild plant identification? Woodcarving? Rope making? Leather crafting?
They have online classes and lectures if those interest you too.
Again: all of this is often totally free. More out of the way than your closest public library, sure... but they're not just programs for kids, and you can find some cool stuff to do!

Alice Walton, yes that Walmart Walton, is actually using her wealth for good reason. While yes I know there are likely reasons that are not so PR friendly to do these acts, it is still cool to see.
Just wanted to share this interesting way of thinking of health care…

Crystal Bridges is the traditional art museum but the way the pieces art displayed is something I have never seen. It makes you think and interpret art with more context of the time and people who created the art.
This summer, 2025, the entire museum was dotted with Native American art side by side with the “classic American landscape.” I also thought it was a cool touch that the artist statement/description was in that Native American language. Several regions and tribes were displayed. Some were from the 1800s and some from 2025. I have never seen a traditional art museum treat art like this. It was not hidden away and marked historical. It was treated with the same respect as Rosie the Riveter. Which is also worth a visit. They also fully moved a Frank Lloyd Wright house that now lives on the property. The entire complex has nature trails with sculptures dotted around. By the way all free, minus the house which I think is 5-10 dollars. There is also a private/traveling show which cost about the same.
The Momentary is a completely different beast of an art museum. First of the building, it is a decommissioned cheese factory. Which that is just fun to wonder around in. They do “art of the moment.” So lots of live events. Also lots of contemporary art. General admission is always free. I have never been able to time my visit to see and major live events. So I know less about them. I still enjoy seeing and experiencing the very strange art. A artist is usually in residence. So you never know what is to be expected. Usually for context they throw in a piece from the traditional style just for juxtaposition.
Both of these have been a boon to a, let’s face it conservatives, area. Lots of LGBQT+ representation. Which is very hard to find in a place like Arkansas. Also it is wonderful to visit a museum and not feel like a second class citizen due to being on the broke side and or not being fancy. Being from Arkansas, but being lucky enough to travel to most of the continental US, I have been to a lot of different museums and art museums. To have this quality, quantity, and diversity of art be free and not several states away is amazing. Anyone who has ever interacted with me and shown an interest in doing something with art, gets an even longer geek out about these places.
