Ruby with jewel is the prerequisite to her and treasure which is RAHH, I love her and treasure they’re so toxic to healing babes. Ruby’s interactions with Jewel felt so much more light and warm in a way that wasn’t suffocating and had me in the shutupouttafear type of feeling.
She was lighter as she just had gained (I’m assuming recently) her responsibilities to the eternal flame. Ruby with treasure at the beginning is so strong of a force that it feels like she’s trying to prove something trying to prove to herself or her brother or other dragons that she can keep a human. At the same time it’s still something where you can obviously see that she cares about treasure like they have matching wounds. Being rejected from their kind for feeling sympathy for “the monstrous” or been some kind of “other”
I wanna explore Ruby got the way she did. I think about this explanation of her relationship with jewel a lot anyway. Like I can’t even see this “villain” as one anymore because the more you look at villains and their motivations, if they’re so incredibly written, you can see the whole point. They’re other people, in this case dragons, who were hurt, rejected or deprived of “humanity” (in quotations for our dragon queen)
Jewel and her were almost friends at first like they met in a much healthier way. (Now whether jewel and her progressed into lovers is another story) I love them either way. They were able to be curious and most importantly RUBY LETS THEM GO in a way that treasure didn’t get until later like they had physical freedom to an extent but it was also mentally they weren’t free. And all of it is driven by Ruby’s insecurity/fear of losing them.
