Norsery Rhymes from A to Z Frija, The Goddess of Love

Well here we are another Thor’s Day and another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic) mythological characters.  This week it’s Frija / Frijjo, High German version of Frigg, and Goddess of Love.

So let me get this straight*:

Frigg = Freyja Holle = Frigg = Freyja Meda** = Freyja Gulveig = Freyja Heiðr = Gulveig = Freyja Angrboða = Gulveig = Freyja Gerðr = maybe Freyja Ostra*** = maybe Freyja? Everyone = Freyja????????

Mythology is so weird

*Disclaimer: I am completely generalizing and taking theories as fact for this is a shitpost, please don't take it very seriously. However all have some truth or possible truth to it **Meda is a Frisian Goddess who gave the name to the city Medemblik. There was a golden temple there dedicated to her. Her name means "maiden", so she was probably a version of Freyja being worshiped by younger women and girls, where they would move on to Freyja at the right age or after marriage ***Dutch name for Ostara/Eostre

Finding my relationship with Frija/Frigg prompting me to remember my heritage and doing ancestor work. The goddess Mokosh is very similar to Frigg… finding myself and my studies running full circle.

Asgardian visitor

Having meant to come to Earth to check up on her grandson, Frija was instead met with various SHIELD agents arriving. She was unsure of their intent at first, but was compliant enough when led back to a helicarrier that was nearby. Once she told them who she was and who she was here to see, the blonde haired woman was asked to remain seated - under the supervision of an agent - while another went to speak with the director on what to do. 

Given that Thor happened to be busy at this given moment, it was decided that Wanda and Pietro would be asked to show her around. Sort of as a ‘keep her busy, and out of trouble’ sort of thing. 

While she waited, Frija remained seated as asked, and sorted the various fruits around that she’d brought with her in her basket. She was humming softly to herself, and wondering what all she might see on her visit here - if anything. She understood that her grandson’s being here was to help and protect the mortals from outside threats - and sometimes themselves - so she was fully prepared to end up leaving without getting to see him at all. 

Not that that would be the happiest way to leave Earth today, but she was remarkably more patient than most other Asgardians were, and far less confrontational than she’d seen a lot of her people be upon ‘not getting their way.’ 

Perhaps this was just another good thing, about her being from Frigga’s side of the family - not Odin’s.

Along the lines of my former pets with odd names, we had a white german shepherd named Frija.

I have no idea why she was named that.  My mom named her and I have never once thought about it.

Frija was a dumbass.  A grade A dumbass.  She loved to play fetch, but she didn’t realize that she was supposed to stop when she was tired, so we had to pay attention to when she was tired out so she wouldn’t hurt herself trying to keep playing.

Oddly enough, she picked up the rules of tag in one afternoon.

Made rose-lemonade with pink food colouring and edible gold glitter as an offering for Freyja ♡

Also did some divination for some suspicions I had and yeah, three constructed deities I thought were connected were in fact all Freyja.

Like I said on Discord. Three Freyjas in a trenchcoat xD

And the Veiled Silence has revealed herself as Holle.

So quite some changes in the personal pantheon! Both have shown interest in teaching me magic and Otherworldly travel, so this will be interesting
