I hear a lot about (and eat a lot of) NDN tacos (Cherokee tacos, Diné tacos; typically the name of the Nation/Tribe is inserted in place of NDN tacos, but around here they're still called "Indian Tacos", so…), which are taco fillings/toppings served on a piece of fry bread, but I never hear as much about NDN beignets, which are fry bread covered in honey & powdered (confectioner's) sugar (or drizzled with/dipped into corn syrup). "Dessert fry bread"

As someone who's been to New Orleans and had beignets at Café Du Monde (sounds like a flex, but I'm not actually cultured, don't worry; it was a treat from a friend), I can say that fry bread is a fairly decent substitute for the authentic beignet. It's a bit thicker/heavier/denser, however you wanna say it (+ the shape is always off; beignets are uniform and square, fry bread… s'not) but it is ultimately a piece of fried dough covered in dust sugar and honey; hence the name of NDN beignet.

Beignets are more doughnut like than fry bread is, but like… "we ran outta venison and other toppings, so dessert time!" &/or "I made extra because I have a sweet tooth, someone get the corn syrup!"
