I decided to do @fuckyeahsabrielfics‘ rec-a-thon challenge, because honestly it’s such an awesome idea. There are so many amazing writers and so many amazing fics, and the world should know about them!))
the challenge was to pick from less known authors, so here we go:
1. Wisteria by @kibberswrites - a HS AU where Sam has flowers for hair, self-esteem issues and too big of a heart.
I loved this right from the start. The idea is interesting and definitely not something I’ve seen or read before, so it is by all means not your ordinary high school AU; and the metaphor that is the backbone of this story is something many of us can relate to. It is beautifully written and full of melancholy, but not the kind that brings you down, the kind that makes you a bit nostalgic and a bit sad, but it’s a sadness that is full of light and hope. Music can often be that way, and when you read this story, sometimes you can actually hear its music.
2. You Always Take It Further by @sabrielloween - an extremely adorable and fluffy canon divergence where Gabriel is back and wants to do nice things for Sam.
This little story will make you go all ‘awwwwwh’ and could quite possibly cause death by cute, because what can be more adorable than a story that has both Sammy and a bunch of adorable puppies? That’s right, Sammy covered in puppies, all laughing and happy and, at least for a brief moment, without a single care in the world. Throw in a generous amount of fluffy feels about our two favourite dorks beginning to realise they have feelings for each other, and you will get a perfect recipe for an extra-sweet, extra whipped cream fluffy (and sprinkles puppies!) cocktail that is this beautiful story.
3. Floristry by @gabriels-horn-of-truth - a little fluffy canon divergence about flowers, their meanings, a certain hunter and that one not-really-dead archangel we all love so much.
Now, I have to fess up, Maddi wrote this to fill my prompt, but that is not why I picked this particular story among other adorable ficlets that she’s written (check out her ao3 you will not regret it). To be honest, I love her writing style and it was really hard to pick just one story (and that’s why I’m not-so-subtly directing you all towards her ao3 account), but I managed. This story stands out for me, apart from the obvious reasons, because of the way flower forum nerds are introduced into such a short story. They are merely mentioned in passing several times through the fic, and not focused on at all, yet somehow, as you read it, you see all those wonderfully quirky flower enthusiasts, imagine all those different characters and faces, you picture them, although they have not been described at all. And that, in my opinion, is a sign of good writing. And, of course, the amount of cute brought on by a profuse apology and a love confession spelled out with flowers is right up there in the awwwww pile of the fluffiest of fluffy feels.
