looong time no see. last time you heard from me, i had just submitted my F31! well, now i come with even greater news: i passed my comprehensive exam last month.

the first of 3 major milestones in our phd program is the comprehensive exam, which consists of a 1 week long written exam and then an oral defense shortly after of your written responses. this is also when your committee asks you a bunch of questions trying to find the limits of your knowledge + seeing how you handle answering questions under pressure.

it feels GREAT to be done and preparing for that is one of the reasons I disappeared from april until now. but im so glad to be back.

other life update: we got another pup and her name is daisy.

monthly reflections are becoming more and more interesting as my life progresses because so much keeps happening EACH MONTH lol.

what are you looking forward to for June?

i'm excited about exploring more parts of Michigan (and even Canada)!

worked on an application essay in the courtyard yesterday and listened to the torrential downpour, very peaceful

my first year of grad school will be challenging in more ways than one and a true test of my time management. i expressed this concern to my soon-to-be PI and they told me to remember "the time where your grades matter has passed. just do the bare minimum to get credit for the class" and thats honestly helpful. like i know how to direct my attention for my coursework, and they also gave me tips on time blocking for lab, etc etc.

it'll be an adjustment and there will definitely be a rough transition period the first couple months, but i know i've got this. do you all have any tips??

april 22

gave feedback on my lab mate's qualifying exam and i'm so proud :') can't believe that's going to be me in a few years lol

so this coming week is going to be my last week of academic work here at purdue. i'm going to finish my paper and submit it, then take my final exam on wednesday or thursday, then i'm DONE. after that? its just lab for the rest of april and may :))

my time at purdue is coming to an end AHHH can't wait to get out of here i do not like indiana

we are so close to the NSF GRFP submission day, i cannot wAIT to turn this in and have it off my hands. today was peer editing research proposals and although i have some changes to make, i still feel good about it. making those edits is going to take up a lot of my time this weekend (and mental energy) so I'm trying to make sure I go into this weekend with a clear head, ready to write.

tomorrow, i'm starting to headplate mice again and this time is essentially the real deal because i'm hoping to get some preliminary data for my ABRCMS poster. its going to be a long day tomorrow but we've got this, nothing we can't handle!

DEC 12 / 2021

i'm finally up to a passing grade in pchem! and by this time tomorrow, i will be done with pchem. i will be FREEEEEE. this class has been something different and i'm confident i'll do well tomorrow.

its sad because after this final, my brain will think im done when in reality, i still have 3 finals and a 20pg lab report to finish LOLOL

i want to wish everyone a happy finals week!
