the tears didn’t surprise him , only made his heart ache and pull his lover closer . ❝ i got you , you’re safe . ❞ his flesh thumb wiped away what he could . had stroked his cheek with fingers and lips , as soft as he could be .

Bucky can’t sing nearly as well as the songbird next to him , but still , he murmurs the song Sam always sings when things get too much ; when he needs to be reminded where his home is and that he’s safe now . hasn’t learned the name yet , but he knows the words and melody by heart now , sings it to himself when his partner isn’t there to do it for him . ❝ i love you , we’re safe . ❞ he can’t promise an okay , can’t fix either of them , but he can promise his love and his safety .
