I'm the mentor?? we sure about this??? and Connor's like well they aren't exactly lining up around the block. and then Eddie chainsmokes another pack of cigarettes and calls one of the eight million war criminals who owe him a favor to get them out of trouble.

despite sometimes coming off as naive Connor is actually a pretty astute judge of character which means his having Eddie on speed-dial says more about the man he believes Eddie can be than about his trusting the wrong person. (also Eddie does show up every time even if he does bitch loudly so....)

just kidding of course I have thoughts. first off this is delicious. second off Hal conjuring Dinah in her old costume and then vanishing her just as quickly. lots to unpack there!! I need our mutual girlfriend/fig leaf of heterosexuality for the scene to really be complete but as soon as you make me mad she's gone again.

third off this is why I say the retcon that Oliver always knew about Connor undercuts his character - because as horrible as his reaction in #97 is (and it's really heartbreaking! when Eddie Fyers says hey maybe lay off the kid you know it's bad!) but it does make a certain amount of sense for his character at this point.

he's just had his dead ex-best friend appear - surprise, Oliver, you didn't kill him after all! - dress him in the costume he rejected, conjure the woman he wanted to marry, blow him off a cliff face, almost drown him, and tell him the kid he's been hanging out with is his biological son, all while giving the sort of monologue that makes Gatsby look like a model of radical acceptance. but for Oliver's reaction to seeing Connor again to be not the kneejerk rejection of yet another person who expects him to relive the past, but instead a calculated lie? man, I don't know if Connor could forgive that. I couldn't!

also it's so funny to go from green arrow where they are chasing down superweapons that can blow the facade off a building and also the guy selling them is Connor's mom's abusive new husband to robin where the main plot is: kids are bringing handguns to school :( ESPECIALLY because Dixon is writing both titles. obviously robin and green arrow do have different audiences especially coming off of the Grell years but. the tonal whiplash. also do Steph and Connor ever get to talk.... I want this for them

one of my favorite things about green arrow 1988 (Connor portion) is all the flashbacks embedded in the main narrative which create this sense of Connor as a very introspective character.
