「 NARUTO | CHUNIN EXAM CATCH-UP 」
« Why would you give me your scroll? » Gaara asked, and rightfully so. Yukiko proceeded to explain what led her to the conclusion she was out of the game.
In this catch-up cession of the exam there was one subtle change of rules in the Forest of Death challenge: Anko did NOT say they had to get to the tower with the two scrolls in their possession as a team. If Team 18 had been incredibly efficient so far in this exam, they finally crumbled when Tiago decided to continue on his own. He was well aware he was the most skilled of the three and the other two were holding him back. And that was it for Kaito who was already on the verge of a panic attack. He had given-up and decided to stay hidden in a bush until the end of the exam. Yukiko had discreetly taken the Heaven scroll from Tiago, but that wasn’t enough to raise Kaito’s spirit. So Yukiko just wondered off trying to find the entrance again but her poor sense of directions got her lost! But she too had given up. She grew-up believing that Tiago was the strong one, always had been, always will be. So much so she didn’t even question this belief before. And Gaara’s question « When did you forsake yourself? » called her out on it.
What Yukiko doesn’t know is that earlier that day Tiago had a talk with Satoru-sensei who told him he was relying too much on her. Cause if he was the one providing physical protection Yukiko had always been the emotional support, keeping the pieces of his mind together. And this made him want to prove him wrong by succeeding on his own.
Gaara refused to take Yukiko’s Heaven scroll and in his cold way invited her to keep fighting.

⌛️Brushstrokes of Fate ⏳️
The soft scent of ink and fresh paper filled the small art studio as Mizu dipped her brush into the deep red paint. Beside her, Michiru giggled, dabbing her brush into black paint and twirling it playfully between her fingers. They sat hunched over the canvas, their strokes precise yet alive with emotion, as Gaara’s piercing gaze slowly emerged from the painting.
“You really captured his expression, Mizu,” Michiru murmured, eyes flickering between the canvas and the red-haired man standing near the window.
Gaara had been observing them for some time, watching in quiet fascination as the girls worked in tandem, painting his likeness with a care he wasn’t accustomed to. His world had long been one of sand, solitude, and silence. Yet here, in this small studio, surrounded by the swirls of color and soft laughter, something felt different.
“Do you think he likes it?” Mizu asked softly, lifting her brush from the canvas.
Michiru, always the daring one, turned toward Gaara with a cheeky smile. “Well, Lord Kazekage? Is it up to your standards?”
Gaara stepped forward, his sharp eyes scanning the unfinished painting. His fingers twitched slightly at his side, as if hesitating, before finally reaching out.
Instead of words, he responded with action. He reached for Mizus brush and dipped it into the paint, tracing a silent, careful stroke over both girls cheeks. A single movement—just enough to blend red into the cream-like hues of the girls skin tones. The japanese Kanji for "Love" now painted on each girls face just like the one that was nestled on his own skin.
Mizu and Michiru exchanged wide-eyed glances before bursting into laughter.
“You should paint with us more often,” Michiru grinned.
Gaara looked at the brush in his hand, now stained with color, and then back at the two girls.
Maybe, he thought, just maybe, art was another way to create bonds—not through words, but through shared brushstrokes of fate.

I wanted to draw Gaara wearing clothing from Koume’s home country and I think he looks pretty good. I’m gonna draw more in this way.

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
In universe, it's going to be many years before our two childhood friends meet again. However, I thought it would be fun to catch a glimpse of what they're up to in the meantime. So this chapter is a scene from each character during the interlude.
The scenes in this chapter take place when both Gaara and Aki are twelve years old. Gaara has just arrived in Konoha for the Chunin Exams (we aren't doing that whole arc, don't worry), and Aki is...elsewhere.
Warnings for this chapter: Shukaku has a potty mouth when he's mad.
Also, can you guess what kind of creatures live in Wabi Valley? If you're the first to figure it out, you will receive one (1) headpat.
Thirteen Strokes by Luna_Lee (Chapter 2) Fandom: Naruto Pairing: GaaLee, ShikaTema Chapters: 2/13 Word Count: 13,214 Warnings: None Summary: Gaara knows how to say the word love in so many languages he’s lost count of all the ways. He knows how to write it in just as many. The first way he learned is etched into the skin of his forehead, thirteen precise strokes. He studies love like it’s a discipline that he still hasn’t mastered, seeking it out in books and art and old stories from Suna’s past; he crafts it in various ways, and tries to learn and relearn its meaning with every breath he takes. He searches for it in the eyes of foreign shinobi and the locals alike. He begs to understand love and all its forms, never quite full up on it, never quite sure what exactly he’s missing when it comes to love.
Another prompt for @gaalee-bingo (I know I initially said that I was only gonna use ‘love languages’ but we’re gonna pretend I didn’t): Family Time! This chapter gave me quite a bit of trouble, but thanks to @ayumilovesstars I was able to get this done! She helped me with the Arabic for this chapter, and because she’s just so sweet and wonderful, I’m also dedicating this chapter to her. I’ve also dedicated it to @ghoste-catte and @cmdr-bun!
I hope everyone enjoys this chapter! It may be a while before the next update, because I’m hoping to get the second chapter to IEYH up soon and I have a secret santa gift to focus on, but hopefully it won’t be too long a wait!
Yukiko Nakamura — Naruto shippuden settei
Yukiko Nakamura 🌺 Current ninja rank : Genin — considered criminal since Hava’s arc — Age : 14-15 y.o Height : 152cm Weight : 38 kg Yukiko is a broken teenager. In this part she did a lot of bad choices, got manipulated and betrayed a lot : She kept the secret of her father’s abuses since years, but it leaked and she is shamed by her surroundings. Nobody seem willing to help her. Easier to be against her, avoiding her, than standing for her. She is in a phase of her life where she is seeking for love, a family, a home where she would belong and « redemption ». At this point she still has a lot of hopes and innocence regarding life and relationship to others. But she had to admit there is no hope for her father, he is mad and cannot be saved. After she managed to send away her little sister, Miani she had to save herself. She took her life into control at 14, a few months before « shippuden » by fleeing her country with the Haiko sword and the Nakamura seal, and hiding at Ino’s before her trip to the Albino Island, where she believed she would find home and acceptance. But it didn’t go well. After this she could go back to a life of submission and marry a man she didn’t choose, she was resigned to seek for a better life anymore. But then the group of Hava, the « Circle of Lost Souls » easily lured her into following them. Making her believe she’ll find the « family » and acceptation she’s been seeking for. But following Hava in the Circle made her a criminal in the eyes of the law. This created a conflict with Gaara that last until a few months before the 4th ninja war when she fled the Circle, ready to face the consequences of her choices, and repent. He forgave her after some times, she really understood her faults, and their relationship was stronger. She accepted his bad choices and forgave him, so he accepted hers too and supported her. As the Kazekage he took a dangerous position in defending her.
