Today's sprites are based on the sprite sheet from MegaMan for the Dendy console. It's a game about a cheerful little man in a suit. I always thought MegaMan was a really fun character. Until I played it myself. And somehow, it didn't seem overly complicated to me. I think that's a programmer's trait.
A programmer's signature, so to speak. If a game is too complicated, it was made by a programmer. And there wasn't a designer or artist at the helm. Programmers create complex codes, write complex functions. And this mentality carries over to the game design itself. My theory. I could be completely wrong, though. But it does happen.
And this is my drawing based on the sprites from MegaMan (Nes). Morning weather. An 8-bit sky. And an 8-bit level. Before my eyes. Little men running straight from the morning. Each to their own game level. And then they meet in this place. And tell each other interesting stories.
There are ladders here. And life-restoring crystals. And there are no monsters here. And you can take a break. While you're playing a level, you always have to be on your guard. And then you can teleport to this zone at any time. And go have some tea. And then pick up the game controller again and return to the level.
The asphalt here is good. It's nice to walk on. And the weather is clear. And the levels are varied. There's lava, there's a forest, there are different cities. An electric city. A city in the jungle. Lots of interesting places. There's a summer field. There's winter. It's slippery there. There's an icy lake. Icy water. There's a level in space. And a bunch of different exotic cities. Inhabited by robots or perhaps abandoned. And the game works in semi-automated mode.
Dima Link is making retro videogames, apps, a little of music, write stories, and some retro more.
Something a little different from what I usually post... but I wanted to share!
One of my courses this semester is a game development class, which has been super exciting! For my group, I was able to design one of the levels to our game--it was my first time ever trying out pixel art, too!
Wish I could have more time to clean this up and fill it with detail, but I had to hurry and finish it up so I could work on other assets for the game. I'll try to share those too, if people are interested!
I have made many TF2 maps in my time... Its always such a pleasure!
Check them all out! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=504551689
