With one week to go until school gets out, the Garden design classes are more about observations, maintenance and EATING! We tasted perrenial cherry tomatoes from a friend's garden while watering the plants. We noticed that the tomato plant had some fruit growing, and one of the zucchini plants has flowered. Future planters of Greenway Arts Alliance! Someone left this large drawer on campus, so we are thinking of using it as a bed in one of the student gardens. We also have one more beautiful whiskey barrel planter from our #craigslistcomeup for another little tree. As the school year comes to an end, we start to hear the rumble of rumors of things to come in the fall. It looks as though our garden programming may have opportunities to expand, as long as all goes well. With so much going on at Greenway Arts, I am very grateful for peaceful moments like this in the Fairfax Friendship Garden. While the Garden Designers were watering the plants, this tiny hummingbird hung out with them for quite a while. Yesterday the Garden Designers planted a Monterey Almond Tree, a patio tomato plant, rosemary, lavender and tons of Marigolds. Marigolds were planted around each of the vegetable plants since they help with pest management. They are also beautiful! Today we had a quick garden class to see how things are growing, what is done growing and to plant new seeds. These nastertiums are growing beautifully and the Jasmine is in bloom.
