Apologies if you've already answered this. Where do Gemini Donnie and Leo think they're from? They obviously know Big Mama isn't their biological mother. Do they think they were just orphaned yokai? How do they explain the 'twins' thing if they're two different species?
The Gemini are aware that they're adopted, and believe that they were simply given up as infants and adopted by Big Mama. They don't think they're different species because they're not aware that they're mutated turtles-- they think that they're yokai! Specifically, part-kappa-part-oni.
Their differences in appearance are just a result of genetics, the same as it would work for any set of siblings. 🤷🏻♂️ Donnie's soft shell is just a result of his oni traits manifesting more heavily in that area that they did for Leo, of course! Their different colorings and markings are just like siblings who have different hair, skin, or eye color, or different birth-marks. Donnie just got his longer snout from their kappa parent, obviously, that's all.
They joke about how little they look alike despite being twins, but it's just the luck of the draw, right? Besides, them both being so unique and distinctive is just good branding! ;)
