—Life in Ishigami Village had always been a constant peace, with the usual problems typical of that kind of society. However, none of those conflicts could have compared to the surprising chaos that engulfed the village when a certain scientist with leek-like hair arrived.

—Your initial distrust was reflected in every attempt by the scientist and his companions to establish themselves in the village's increasingly new routine, with Gen bearing the brunt of your doubt.

—If it was already common to view outsiders as potential threats to the established peace or as criminals expelled from the surrounding area, it was his arrival, with that cheap magician's smile and that syrupy voice, that quickly led you to label him a "danger" in the privacy of your mind.

—Gen's not blind, far from it. His talent for reading microexpressions and tension served him perfectly, as he recognized that disdain in you. The same thing that, surprisingly, piqued his interest. So, every time he saw that frown of yours, he couldn't help but let an ambiguous comment escape his lips; sometimes it was a decidedly suspicious compliment, and other times it was the hint of a smile too sweet to be casual.

—While most people ended up falling head over heels for his soft voice and harmless demeanor, you couldn't. You looked at him as if he was a sheep in wolf's clothing, as the saying goes.

—The resistance you put up only achieved the opposite of what you wanted in the first place, since, instead of distancing himself, he only felt an increase in his intrigue, which led him to find excuses to stay close.

—Gen started asking you personally for help with various tasks, simple ones at that, in the village, such as understanding the traditions of this new world or even how to use the wooden platforms to walk on swampy terrain, when he hadn't even planned on using them. He was only after one thing with his constant barrage of questions: to find a pattern in your reactions based on how he acted towards you.

—That's how he began to deconstruct the walls surrounding your heart, stone by stone, if that's what it took.

—In a village where life is harsh and straightforward, it was clear you valued frankness above all else. A preference reflected in your many interactions with him, because every time he tried to manipulate you by coming around, you cut him off abruptly, muttered a proper goodbye, and left. The best part? He was genuinely surprised and incredibly charmed.

—The turning point in your relationship, if you could call it that, came late one night. While everyone else slept in the comfort of their homes, you had the chance to meet the mentalist, stripped of his usual tricks, just him and a campfire that was about to go out. You didn't know where that feeling came from, but you chose to stay, finding a place to sit and listen to him. For the first time, he spoke to you without embellishment, without false smiles.

—That quiet night marked the beginning of a love that Gen couldn't even name.

—The doubts about how the village routine worked gradually shifted, giving way to a more protective attitude, which he excused as unplanned. When someone bothered you, he appeared “coincidentally.” When there was hard work to be done, he “happened” to be there to help. When he believed you were tired, he offered you water or a small break.

❝Don’t misunderstand. I’m only here because you’re… Convenient. Very convenient. Painfully convenient.❞ He tried to hide himself behind his sleeve, but it didn't work. At All.

—Obviously, you were the first to notice this new vulnerability, since you were the primary recipient of these not-so-subtle changes. Gen might be a master of deception, but you had already learned to distinguish a nervous smile from a genuine one. It was that very ability of yours, to read him like an open book, that completely disarmed him.

—The confession finally came at the height of a fight between the two of you; the reason for the initial argument had been forgotten by then. You accused him of manipulating you, or at least trying to, of using your feelings as if they were some kind of social experiment. So many accusations were made that he was left speechless, his guard down, and almost silently, he blurted it out.

❝Why the hell do you think I try so hard with you? It’s not a trick…❞ He took a step back, recoiling for an instant like he didn't mean to say it out loud but couldn't stop himself. ❝I’ve lied about many things. But not this. I like you. Annoyingly, sincerely, disastrously so.❞

What does gen mean?

In Ao3 and fanfiction terms, gen refers to anything that is not shipping or romance centric. There's a lot of shipping in the TMA fandom so I thought I'd make a blog to give some love to non-ship dynamics because there are a lot of them and they are so very interesting <3 This blog idea is inspired by @/epitheterasedgen :>

How can I request?

Send an ask that includes one or more of the following - media type (headcanon/fic/art), scenario/prompt, and characters! I will also write not requested stuff if I feel like it. I have no request blacklist so far just that the characters must be from The Magnus Archives. You can request fluff, angst, hurt/comfort, whatever as long as it's gen!

Matt’s quiet admission of his name, that whispered “Matthew” to Claire hit me with this realization like a freight train so I must share.

Context: I adore John Denver. Specifically, his “An Evening With John Denver” live recording. It’s my favorite album ever because it has this energy that none of his studio albums have. Ever. I call this the “Bob Seger Problem” because Bob Seger’s early albums have this same problem. Anyway.

The meat of things: I think Matt Murdock would absolutely sob upon hearing that recording of “Matthew.” The man loves records, and that shit comes in vinyl. I do not own it, but I know it exists.

The song, “Matthew,” is based around John Denver’s uncle who died when he was eighteen, but the song immortalizes him as a forever child, as his father’s only boy, riding on his daddy’s shoulders behind a mule beneath the sun.

And in that live recording, you can hear him smile as he sings it. He loves that song. He loves performing it. And being able to just hear that?? I think the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen would break down and cry.

Hi nonnie!! I’m so sorry I’m not 100% sure what you’re referring to, but I love ya all the same! Plus anytime someone asks for Hero HC’s I can’t deny that :D My favorite boy. I’m also gonna tag @luvbunnz in here, because I know how much she looooooves Hero and how much she wants to hear all my ideas about Hero <33333 

Pushing my ‘Kel and Hero are latino’ headcanon again. I think Hero loves hot foods. People assume he wouldn’t like them, but he and Kel are spice lords. It’s always a shock to other people because when Hero says he’s making something spicy he means it. 

Kel is the only person in their group who can stomach the spicy stuff that Hero cooks for them. Sunny won’t touch anything that has more than pepper. Basil would try if Hero asked but probably tear up just at the smell. Aubrey pretends she can handle it but quickly gives into drinking three glasses of water, and Mari just smiles and politely declines. 

Hero loves comic books. They’re his one guilty pleasure. He has a stack of them hidden under his bed and when Kel falls asleep at night he pulls out his comics and a flashlight and reads late at night. He would share with his brother, but Kel tends to return his comics with dog ears and ripped pages and stains, so Hero hides them away

Hero is the mediator of all arguments in the group. When two people have a conflict they go to him. They don’t go to Mari because Mari tends to try and stay very neutral, but Hero isn’t afraid to say that someone is doing something wrong. The younger of the group trust his judgement, because he’s always fair about it, but it’s still embarrassing when you get told off by him. 

Hero is the one who came up with the idea of a treehouse. He and his dad built pretty much the whole thing by themselves. He built it for everyone, but he mostly built it for Sunny because he knew that sometimes Sunny needed time to himself. Hero knew it was the right choice, because Sunny spent almost the entirety of the summer in their treehouse

The treehouse also has special privileges for Sunny, Kel, Hero, and Mari. They can go up there at any time, and it never feels like they’re intruding. Hero has spent many an afternoon up there alone doing homework while Mari was at a club, waiting for Kel and Sunny to walk home from the bus stop. 

Aubrey and Basil also know they have this privilege, but they never end up using it because it feels wrong to just go into Sunny and Mari’s backyard. The gate that connects Hero and Kel’s house to theirs means that they don’t really view it as “sneaking in” 

Hero is on the premed track at college, but he’s getting a minor in sociology. I think that Hero is really personable, and he’s interested in why society is the way it is. He would really want to be minoring in anthropology, but his school doesn’t offer that. Sociology is the closest thing. 

Hero has always been bad in English classes. It’s not that he doesn’t understand the material, it’s just that he needs to have ‘the right answer’. For courses like Art, Philosophy, and English where there isn’t always necessarily a right answer, Hero stumbles. His sociology work has helped him to start to branch out from needing a right answer. 

I think I’ve talked about this somewhere (or maybe just with my bestie…) but Hero leaves a trail of broken hearts behind him everywhere he goes. First off everyone and their mother gets a crush on him. He’s handsome, smart, gentle, and even though he is a little distant he’s always very charming. But, Hero rejects every single person. 

First there was a rumor he was gay, but then he also turned down the boys that worked up the courage to ask him out. Then there was a rumor he was already taken (He does wear a ring around his neck on a chain) but that was also quashed when he said he was single

All around no one can really get a good handle on what exactly Hero’s deal is. He’s always very sweet when rejecting people’s romantic intentions, and he’s never any harsher than he has to be, but everyone continues to wonder who is going to be that one person that would be right for him. The one person who Hero would feel good enough to let down his walls with.

I need more headcanons about omega Kokichi hh He can be in any situation,, it really doesn’t matter! ((Thank you for this blessed blog!!))

Kokichi’s a really hard character to write for, I hope I did him justice!

He loves playing up the ‘sweet innocent omega’ act. If suspicion rightfully falls on him for some prank or other, he’ll pull a whole routine of ‘me?! you can’t possibly think I did it, I’m just a poor little omega!’ It’s complete bullshit and most people know it, but once in a while someone actually falls for it.

If he doesn’t care about getting caught/punished he’ll follow it up with ‘geez, you fell for that? you really thought I couldn’t have done it just ‘cause I’m an omega? you gotta stop relying on dumb old stereotypes!’

Another trick in his arsenal is fake tears. Alphas and betas have an instinctual discomfort to seeing an omega cry, and Kokichi exploits the hell out of this. It’s rarely effective enough to actually get him out of trouble, but it’s great for annoying people.

Because of this, the omegas in his class often get put on what’s been nicknamed ‘Kokichi duty’, aka being the sucker who has to tell him to stop doing whatever it is that he’s doing. Although omegas don’t have the instinctual discomfort to tears, they do have regular non-instinct related discomfort, so it’s still a generally unpleasant experience.

He can and will steal stuff from literally everyone for his nest, even from people who by social custom he’s not close enough with to take nesting materials from. He does this solely to be obnoxious, because it’s considered a massive faux pas to take stuff back from a nesting omega’s nest unless you seriously need it and you have something to replace it with.

There are people who say ‘screw the rules’ and take their stuff back anyways, but then Kokichi dials up the waterworks to eleven and becomes ten times more annoying because he has an excuse now, so it’s usually less of a hassle to let him keep the stuff until he dismantles the nest.
