What system would you recommend for a game focused on court intrigue and duels a la a sort of Revolutionary Girl Utena scenario?
My first impulse would probably be Haley Gordon and Vee Hendro’s Good Society, likely with some material from the Sense, Sensibility & Swordsmanship expansion in play. It’s one of those new-school GMless storygames, though, and you’d have a fair bit of work cut out for you adapting it to a high school setting (it’s really more Jane Austen by default), so if you’d prefer something a touch more traditional I’d be inclined to go with Blue Rose.
(On the flip side, you didn’t say whether you’re interested in Ikuhara-style metatextual shenanigans, but if you gave Revolutionary Girl Utena as your example because you figured that part was obvious, there’s Dr. Jenna Moran’s Chuubo’s Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine. Fair warning: rules-wise it’s even more esoteric than Good Society is, so this is strictly an off-list rec unless having rules support for deep meta fuckery is your explicit goal.)
top 5 RPGs to play instead of d&d
In no particular order
I’ve been digging chronicles of darkness lately, mostly changeling because my characters are all fucking rad.
FATE good.
Cyberpunk 2020 BAD but also i love it
This weird system i ran like twice that was built by me and some friends that used playing cards instead of dice and i dont have the rules for it anymore :(
PLEASE SOMEBODY PLAY CATS OF CATTHULU WITH ME!!!
Also you didn’t need to specify “instead of D&D” because dnd wouldnt have made the list anyway
where's that post where sildar hallwinter is barry's real name and it became barry bluejeans after a series of more and more inscrutable nicknames
What’s that post that’s like Sildar -> Darry -> Barry and then Bluejeans is self explanatoryÂ
i want to believe that his legal surname is bluejeans and he changed it on purpose to fuck with people. like legally his first name is still sildar but all his ID says Sildar Bluejeans because nobody believes that that part of his name is the real one
Can I request that first sets on new worlds have more interesting names more often? More like "Ravnica, City of Guilds" and "Shards of Alara" and "Khans of Tarkir" than just "Kaladesh", "Amonkhet", "Ixalan".
Let's see what all of you think. When we first visit a world, would you prefer:
a) Just the world's name as the set name (Innistrad, Theros, Kaladesh, Amonkhet)
or
b) Modifiers along with the name of the world as set name (Khans of Tarkir, Scars of Mirrodin, Shadows over Innistrad)?
(I'm aware some of my examples of the second aren't first time visits, we just don't have lots of examples.)
20, 79
20. Are you starting to realize anything? how much I dislike certain parts of my body
79. What was the last concert you saw? Rush on their R40 tour
I play a half-elf fighter who's a blacksmith and fights with a hammer and is in lesbians with the other PC who's a half-elf ranger, they're gfs and make the rest of the party groan all the time with how sweet they are to each other
nice!
i have a blacksmith npc who has a big gay crush on the druid in our party
