Gregory Peck is so very much my Alexandr Block face claim. Like that is Sasha to me.
he, of course, would never say “Bullets spare those who are in love” though…
"Just follow my lead, Captain..."

This next phase was really cool from the perspective of gameplay & story integration. Which is always something I've been big on. Days 5-6 were extremely hectic. Really push you to the limits dealing with the frustration of this town working against you to save them from a plague that's now becoming a huge nuisance. All while the looming threat of an Inquisitor's arrival pressures Dankovsky who feels like he knows who'll arrive and that they'll likely execute him if he can't sort out the infection before they do.
So when one new to him, this lady Aglaya, arrives he's surprised to find she's actually quite cordial with him. Respects how far he's come and is willing to help. Then you have stuff like her edict lowering the infamous price gouging that's made finding enough food difficult since Day 2. She does end up having her own agenda that's more of the same nonsense town politics and I fell for it lock, stock, and smoking barrel. Because I was earnestly so relieved by how much her presence initially made things a little bit easier. An idea even further reinforced by the latter arrival of...
General Block along with a regiment and some bigass artillery. You know, the kind attached to a train car. The General ultimately has the authority to just shell the down to limit the spread of the Sand Pest. But, he legitimately does not want to. He's willing to listen to Bachelor Dankovsky. And through a lot of the back third of the story will actually seem somewhat reasonable. Though he does run into issues keeping all of his troops in line.
As you can see his arrival occurs Day 9. Day 8? The absolute worst in terms of just getting around. The plague first hits districts you don't have to go to much. At least not when you don't have a point to. But by Day 8 you're juggling the infected districts covering some of your main throughfares, the standard mugger enemy is out of control, and now he's backed up by fanatics trying to burn things. Including the dandy doctor from the big city. I don't think there was a harder day than #8. I had to reload so much just trying to get from one place to the other. The order brought by martial law was quite welcome. Even though it starts the downward spiral for the Bachelor's finale.
*bites you* @koyato, why are you doing this to me
General Alexander Block and Captain Longin. Two dolls in the cruel hands of people who do not realize the consequences of their actions. Toys for therapy, because playing war is fun. Alexander is at least a character, but Longin... He's just an extra. One of hundreds of the same soldiers with the same face. Chosen among hundreds of identical dolls. How special should he feel? Maybe that's enough to try to become something more?
Yes, and the thing with the legs is a little obscure... These are fingers, or rather nails, because in some puppets the legs are controlled by two downward pointing fingers. And Executors masks... These are not just bird skulls, they are fingers. With long nails. Fingers. They're not just plague doctors. These are fingers. I'm sorry I still haven't recovered from this.

The idea of Aglaya and Block as a pair of chess pieces is already so complex, but the thought of it through a romantic lense is killing me.
Block is the gun and its up to Aglaya to pull the trigger, but shes a doll in the end and all of this is no longer her story. She loses the ability to manipulate him as a weapon and must see him as a man whilst KNOWING that other dolls are lining up to take a shot. She tries to manipulate the doll, as a doll, into pulling the trigger but fails to accound for the player behind them. She succeeds in every story you're not playing because YOU are her foil and all she can do is watch as Block executes the outcome she didn't want. She goes from the person behind the trigger to the person infront of it and the only person who stays static in ANY sort of predictable way is. Alexander block himself. But he cant help it. its in his nature to be a weapon. He's not in control no matter how finely crafted and humane and in love and consistant he is. He is the weapon and he is the trigger and he's a tool in the end. Imagine being aglaya and loving him anyway. What a shell of a man. What a shell to love.
