Prompt 4: Shifting Blame
[[ @sea-wolf-coast-to-coast ]]
Jajazan stood, bathed in a cold sweat of fear but trying not to show it, in the last - no, not the last, but I might soon end up there, oh GODS don’t let him blame me - place he wanted to be. He had given Jajarexa the three bells he had promised the boy before going to Gegerika to explain the inconsistencies he had found in the books. The real books, that was, not the ones presented as such for official purposes. Now, standing in his brother’s office, he was regretting it more by the second. He hoped Rexa had gotten away. Of course he did, he was his son after all, but a part of him that he tried to convince himself was small hoped Rexa got caught, that as little blame as possible might splash onto himself.
“And you say the boy ran after this act of… generosity.” The word was an obscenity in Gegerika’s mouth, and Jajazan swallowed.
“Y-yes. He seems to have disappeared a few bells before I discovered the tampering.” The lie was dangerous. Very dangerous. He didn’t think his conversation with his son had been overheard, but that did not mean it had not been. And overheard was as good as reported. Perhaps, Jajazan thought with a sudden deeper stab of panic, Sasala had planted a linkpearl in his office somewhere. Still, known was not the same as acted upon, he tried to tell himself. He had only given Rexa a head start… although the “only” in that phrase kept trying to slink away under Gegerika’s hard stare. Jajazan had always been terrified of his eldest brother.
The dangerous silence stretched out uncomfortably, and somewhat to his horror he heard himself begin to babble to fill it. “I… suppose he ought not have been put to the task in the first place. Too… too soft-hearted for it. I suppose.” His tongue froze as he realized the order to send Rexa out on that collecting mission may well have come from the man in front of him. Jajazan tried not to tremble.
“The soft-hearted have no place in this business. Or this family.” Tone and glare both made it clear that Gegerika was speaking not only of Rexa. Jajazan swallowed hard, but did not answer. Like father like son. “See to it that the man whose debt he tried to forgive is rounded up, along with his family and anyone he may have spoken to of it. Have them delivered to Zazalika.”
Jajazan blanched at the order, but nodded, seeing it as the chance at redemption that it was. And “see to it” meant that he need only give the orders, not carry them out in person. No mention of hunting down his son, which he took as a kindness. Although more likely, Gegerika simply didn’t want to risk his hunters being half-hearted for the sake of a test.
Gegerika dismissed him with a wave, and Jajazan left with as much dignity as he could muster when all he wanted to do was scurry, deeply grateful to have come away from the meeting with his life and praying that he would continue to keep it.

RANDOM POINTLESS FACT TIME
I’ll take the ! as saying you want 3 lol
U’biwali, my witch cat, is actually half moon-cat (and has the fangs to prove it). She is the half-sister of Rhesh, my pirate cat, but literally no one knows this, and the odds of anyone finding out are pretty much nil. Also I need to change U’biwali’s last name ‘cause I got it from the random name generator before I knew anything about FFxiv lore and I don’t like it that much.
in WoW, Skala is Genrik’s eldest grandchild (who inherited after he died because her father - his eldest child - had died many years before). In FFxiv, Sasala is Gegerika’s eldest child, as the family is smaller, and Gegerika is a good 20 years younger than Genrik was (and is also still alive). Sasala is, however, just as terrifying as Skala.
in WoW, Javrizz used to have an identical twin. His twin died when a pick-pocketing job went bad. In FFxiv, they are engineers instead of thieves, and both are still alive. It is entirely pointless to try to tell them apart because they love to fuck with people and being indistinguishable is the number one weapon in their arsenal. They also like to switch boyfriends randomly because they can.
BONUS FACT: Jarexx’s original lalafell name was Jajarexa Zuzurexa. He changed his name to Jarexx Muzzleflash because a) he needed a fake name, and b) it just kinda… felt right. Even though a less obviously fake name probably would have served him better. He Does Not Appreciate me sharing this. (In WoW, he only changed his last name - from Jarexx Blackchain to Jarexx Muzzleflash - and purely because disowned Blackchains were Strongly Encouraged to find new names to prevent diluting the brand.)
[Aha! I've got a real question to get your headcanons on. What do you (or your characters if they have something to say) think a proper goblin funeral is like? How do goblins send off someone they cared about?]
ah man I really had to think about this one lol. Decided to poll some of my characters to find out what they thought
Jarexx says if someone he cared about died, he’d prefer something as quick and simple as possible, mostly so he could get away quickly to grieve in private. Sort of a small get-together where a few words are spoken.
Genrik, being both very rich and very old, has informed me he has already made arrangements for his own funeral. It will be huge and ostentatiously expensive, with hundreds of hired mourners to cry over him. (he has no illusions about being missed. Pretty much the only people who’d miss him are his bodyguards, and while he trusts them completely, he doesn’t really see them as people so they don’t count) He considered also having a private investigation set in motion just in case he didn’t actually die of old age, but in the end decided that that was more likely to harm his business than anything else. After all, the only person he’d trust to do such an investigation properly is also the most likely person to have killed him. And while he has no intention of letting her kill him, if she can pull it off more power to her. Meanwhile, his recently deceased assassinated brother was just dumped in the bay with no words spoken at all... and all three of his wives got little more than “welp, she’s dead now. Time to move on” so... bit of a hypocrite there
Margax has never been a Kezan goblin, and he informs me that the tradition he grew up with was to have a wake to celebrate the life of the person who died. Something with laughter and music and drinking and happy stories.
Razzix says he’s never held a funeral for anyone, and has no intention of doing so in the future.
In more general terms, given that goblins originated (as far as we know) on the island of Kezan, I think they’d tend more towards either cremation or “burial at sea” - personally I’d guess cremation. Of course, that’s for the ones that leave enough behind to burn. Space on an island is limited, and I feel like they’d rather use any tunnels for things other than catacombs. Those who live elsewhere may have adopted burial depending on where they live.
Where Your Mind Goes Asks: 12 for anyone
12) Name a physical trait your character really likes in others.
hmm..... lets see...
Jarexx sort of has a thing for really soft hair (as in, softer than most goblins have) - just running his fingers through it. He's never really had a chance to do this, as it takes a lot for him to be comfortable with touching/being touched and his past girlfriends haven't had very soft hair... but he imagines it sometimes.
Genrik likes women that are shorter and generally smaller than him... not sure why. Probably a power thing.
Javrizz, on the other hand, has a thing for tall guys. He REALLY likes blood elves. (not that he's had much luck with them, but a guy can try. And grope while stealthed and get smacked.)
★ ★ ★
oh boy, a bunch of them! Let's see...
Jarexx - is afraid of heights, though he'd never admit it. IC, he prefers to travel on the ground whenever possible (though OOC I still fly everywhere 'cause it's so much faster >_>).
Skala - has a brain like a super-computer. A ton of information crosses her desk every day, and she reads and remembers it ALL and can quickly pull out relevant details from memory. While appearing to be no more than a receptionist.
Genrik - has been married four times, but has no ex-wives. They all conveniently died of natural causes when he got tired of them. Anyone looking for proof that they died from less than natural causes would find nothing, but it's hard to not notice a pattern.
Truth or Dare Prompt: [Truth, for any character] Are you happy with your life currently, and if you aren't, why and what could you do to improve it?
(any character, huh? I think I'll send this to.... *rolls dice* Genrik)
The decrepit old goblin smiles thinly. "Happy? Of course I'm happy. My company is raking in profits, even after the setbacks of the Cataclysm, and I have a highly qualified heir ready to take over when I die. And no, I'm not going to tell you who."
calling this part 4, even though this bit isn't really an RP...
