Goro had been alone longer than he could remember anything of his life before the whole foster family stuff. He was an only kid and dating wasn't really with a social status like his. He was pretty content with having a whole apartment to himself without any whiny kids running around like he was used to whenever he changed families.
But everyone craves love one way or another. And he needed it badly.
And where he found it was with you. An exchange student from Germany who was the only one who didn't cling to his desk every break or wanted to share her lunch with him. It was refreshing for him to have someone who just didn't care or know about him.
That's why Goro started to talk more with you in private settings, even taking you out while disguised to not put you into more danger that you could already be in. He wasn't all that scared about the fans, he was more scared of Shido finding out about you. He'd be cruel enough to make Goro kill you or scar you for life.
Currently both of you were on a study date in one of the cafes he liked to visit. He told you that one of his acquaintances lived there up in the attic and that it was a magical place, almost healing. The owner was a witty yet nice older man, not really the chatty type but if he did talk he was very nice about it.
The friend Goro mentioned was a great guy as well. His cat was the first thing that had a hold on your heart, always sitting at the counter to pet him. He always purred when you did that, even licking at your fingers whenever you decided to eat sushi beforehand with Goro.
“You want some more coffee?”
You shake your head at your date's question, smiling slightly. Even though you've been in Japan for quite some time you still felt too shy. Speaking English wasn't really a huge thing in your German town just like you've rarely spoken Japanese before.
Both of you continue to do your Japanese homework, which Goro helped you with continuously. The only subject you were ass in was the one you needed most as an exchange student. It was very nice of him to help you, seeing how you didn't have any real friends. The only ones you currently had wanted to get to Goro through you.
“So it's written like this?”
You point to a symbol written on one of the pages of the book you used to translate from German into Japanese and vice versa.
Goro nods his head, writing something down onto his notepad in kanji.
The whole homework was very frustrating for you, making you claw at your hair and bite onto your lower lip until it hurt. A leathered hand suddenly took yours in it, rubbing over your soft skin. The leather was cold yet soothing, just like Goro was himself. He was a sweet guy, yet also intimidating if he wanted to.
“Maybe we should take a break, hm?”
You look up at him with wide eyes, lips agape as you think about leaving the schoolwork behind for a few minutes. You've been sitting at this for about an hour or two now, not wanting to quit. You open your mouth to protest, but he covers it with his finger.
“Shh.. Let's just relax, hm?”
He pats the spot beside him, making you look around so no one was staring at you both. This cafe was such a relaxing place where you didn't have to worry about any fans or paparazzi bursting in.
You settle on the opposite side of where you previously sat, smiling nervously as he puts an arm around you. Him showing affection so openly in an small downtown cafe was rather surprising yet not at the same time. Your head lolls to his shoulder, nuzzling into the fuzzy fabric of his sweater that smelled very sweet like his personality whenever he was with you.
His lips brushed over your hair, making your heart stutter in your chest. Your own smile widened. This is all you've ever wanted and wished for. Love.
“You've worked a lot today. We should go do something else after this.”
“Like what?”
“Hmm.. I went with Akira here..”
His head motions to the black haired guy behind the counter with a content expression.
“.. to an Arcade last time.. wanna go?”
You look up at him, clearly pondering if you should continue suffering through Japanese homework or have some fun with Goro. He'd probably not take no for an answer.
“Sure, but.. what about your fans?”
“Don't you worry. I'll just use that one disguise I used last time.”
“The one with the glasses?”
“The one with the glasses.”
His hand caresses your head while also playing with your hair, circling it around his index finger with precise care. It seemed like he was in thought while talking to you. If only you knew the things he knew. You'd see him as everyone else would. A monster. Someone to fear. He loved seeing the fear in the shadows eyes, but in yours? No.
You immediately noticed something off about how stiff the caressing was, clearly something weighing heavily on his heart.
“You okay?”
“Hmm..?”
“I said.. are you okay?”
Goro could've just kept quiet and said nothing else than those empty reassurances that he knew weren't working on you. Could've. But did he?
“A lot of things are going on. Phantom thieves.. Media.. Hell.. even.. us.”
Your heart skipped a beat. Even though you knew it was pretty serious between you both you still didn't believe that someone as famous as him would take a risk and.. just date you. It was too good to be true and it seemed like it really was real.
You lift your head just enough to look him in the eyes, which were reflecting the same nervousness as your own. He truly did care for you even though it was hard for him to show sometimes.
“Let's wrap this up and get out of here. Was the coffee good?”
Your lips twitch into an hesitant yet sweet smile, one hand still holding onto his arm like your life depended on it. His finger traces the side of your face slightly enough to make it look like he was wiping something off, so none of the other few customers thought anything else.
He lets go for a moment to fish out a few cash bills, handing it to Akira. The pair just stare at each other with words left unsaid. Then before you could even react Goro motioned for you to stand up. He grabs his papers and stuffs them into his bag. You do the same and say bye to Akira and Sojiro.
“You still wanna go to the Arcade?”
“Hm.. How about we head to my place?”
There was only one time you were at Goro Akechi's place, and that was when he first wanted to study with you. Many would die to be in your place but at the time you didn't even know how popular he really was. Even before the whole Phantom Thieves thing.
He takes your hand in his, the leather feeling just as cold as earlier.
Once you were at the place Goro's driver said he'd meet up, he let go of your hand to check a message on his phone. The location was a rather dark alleyway, the dream of a serial killer that dragged pretty foreigners into his grasp to do god knows what to them. To your unbeknownst, he was just that but with a completely different motive.
"Driver will be here in a few.”
Goro looks back at you, his eyes speaking more words than he could express. You remember the day the teacher introduced you to the class. Your gazes immediately locked and wouldn't tear itself away. He was fascinated by you. Not only your innocence regarding his status, but also the way you'd pronounce certain words. The first time since he left the system he was smiling and even laughing. Not fake, but… real.
Every time you'd call him Goro with the "r” roughly leaving your mouth he had to restrain himself from pinching your cheek.
You both just look at each other when a raindrop falls onto your nose, making it crunch up at how cold it was. One drop turned into two which turned into millions of cold droplets.
Goro sighs as his hair gets drenched.
"Great timing.”
You take a few steps back, hoping to stop under a roof, but no. The rain was merciless, making your school uniform stick to your body, which made you even more uncomfortable. The bag slung over your shoulder felt even heavier as water soaked into it.
Suddenly the awkward silence was disturbed by a soft melody flooding through the streets, seemingly mocking you. It was a classical piece that you once had heard in one of the operas back in your homeland. The one your ears had fallen in love with.
Goro watched your eyes start to sparkle as you slightly swayed to the song. His hand twitched at his side, trying to stop himself from pulling you into his arms. Instead he pries his jacket off to wrap it around you.
“Warm enough?”, he whispers into your ear in a warmer tone, lips brushing against your wet skin. "Or do you need my scarf as well?”
His arm snakes around your waist, brushing over the fabric of your blazer under his jacket. Slowly he starts to match your movement, swaying to the music. A gasp rips through you as he tips you back and nearly brushes his mouth over yours . The sound of your feet hitting the wet asphalt with every step you take mixes with the classical piece. He twirls you around like a secret admirer with his very own princess, even as the music dims into nothingness and the rain is all there is alongside the sound of the distant traffic.
The dance ends with him kissing you, catching you off guard. He still tasted like that coffee he drank back at LeBlanc, leaving a bitter feeling on your tongue. His hands cup both sides of your face, brushing the wet and sticky hairstrands away to have nothing in the way of his lips on yours.
You hesitantly deepen the kiss, soft and hesitant like his own. One of his arms moves down to your hips to pull you closer while yours drape around his neck. His lips were surprisingly soft just like his features whenever he looked at you.
"What do you call sweet in German again?”
His question makes you break the kiss completely to look up at him, that dorky smile plastered on both your faces.
"Süß..”
"You're very suß..”
You giggle at his pronouncination, your heart jumping out your chest at the way his eyes sparkled in the grey ambience of the rain.
"What? Did I say something wro–”
You shut him up with another kiss, this one more passionate than the first one. His hand comes up to tip your chin up to make the access to your lips easier. Your bags lay in a puddle long forgotten, stacked on the other.
This was Goro's dream come true, being with someone who saw him and not his popularity.
BEEP BEEP
Your make out session is interrupted by a car honking loudly. Both of you look over to see Goro's driver staring at you both with a dumbfounded expression. You pull away with a grin, only your pinky fingers still laced with the other. Goro picks up both your bags, mumbling something about how stupid it was to leave them near a puddle.
The driver opens the door for you, Goro motioning you to get in first.
And that's how you miraculously got Goro Akech to kiss you.
