I’d love if we knew more about the Twinbird and its children the Deathbirds. We know so little about Ghostflame and whatever the Outer God of Death is actually like. Presumably thats all on purpose since the Rune of Death was removed from Marika’s order. So it makes sense that any relation to Death would’ve been scrubbed by the Golden Orders own confessors and agents to hide the truth, or alternatively dissuade people from looking for Death in the first place.

The few mentions of them lie in a handful of Ghostflame incantations, the Twinbird shield which is the only direct mention, and *maybe* the Helphen Steeple - which alludes to a spirit realm that the dead have to pass through.

I kind of wish there’d been a second, or alternative, DLC for Elden Ring that would’ve explored that more. Since the Lamplight is supposed to be to Dead Spirits like the Erdtree is to the dying to be reborn - granting a different semblance of guiding grace of its own so that spirits can reach the Lamplight.

That also calls into question the real nature of Spirit Ash. Since we see someone (Latenna) actively becoming Ash of their own volition seemingly giving up a physical body. Though still capable of interacting with the outside world afterwards though only through summoning via Spirit Bell. As well as the fact not everybody can even see Spirits from Ash - like Hewg can’t or Nepheli can only smell the Storm King but Roderika can both hear and interact with the Spirits of Ash.

I don’t think the Gloam Eyed Queen was tied to the true Outer God of Death in the same way as the Twinbird was, since Blackflame is so different to Ghostflame in principle, practice and effect. That’s if the Empyrean concept is true of all Empyreans being chosen/blessed by a specific Outer God influence.

AND its so curious why the Fallen Legion use Spiritflame Arrows that are alight with Ghostflame! Like, were they a different species of human all together themselves who worshipped Death? Because they’re so physically distinct from the Tarnished or even the regular Commoners/Nobles of the Lands Between. The closest thing they look like are the Vulgar Militia, but they are taller than them and far less agile. They were also clearly hated as much as the Vulgar Militia too since they were slaves.

Their symbol is also an inverted hawk - and you could argue the image of the Twinbird is more hawklike on the shield depiction but its vague whether the Twinbird has a distinct relation to a specific type of bird or is just avian.

I’m so curious about them, the Twinbird, it’s deathrite birds and how they all tie together, but there’ll never be any true answers or further insights. Fromsoft drives me insane sometimes!!!!

Koalmolt (Fire/Ground) is a helpful little Kobold who yearns for the mines. It has a Shovel for a tail and a little candle flame on its head that helps it light the way through dark caves.

Kobotage (Fire/Steel) is a mischievous older Kobold who if they can stay on task are very industrious workers but they can easily get distracted and like to mess around with things leading to accidents in the workplace

Grimlow (Ghost) is a shy wandering spirits that give off a ghostly light. They will often run away from people on sight prompting curious people to chase them and get lost.

Gheistro (Ghost) is no longer afraid of people but likes to appear before them in a sudden puff of Smoke and fire as well as performing other tricks to get a rise. It will sometimes hold a Grimlow on their head and pretend to be a human and then tear it off to make people scream.

Hallowyrm (Fire/Ghost) are a very rare pokemon who evolve from a Koalmolt and Grimlow in the party at max friendship but only at Night and in the Autumn leading up to Halloween. The Koalmolt and Grimlow in this pokemon are best friends who want to celebrate the Spooky Season together.
