Marika in the Imperial Clergy AU
Last but definitely not least!! I have a lot of thoughs about her!!
Marika is the underlying powerhouse that keeps the Empire united
This is because when she was relatively young, she realized that the primary power came from the masses, and that she could amount to more by controlling what the general public thought via their Empire's religion, rather than just "absolute" control of one region
She gave Terzo her territory thinking he would feel indebted to her and she could have further control over him while also asserting power through the Ministry, but this turned out not to be the case as Terzo blatantly ignored the majority of her suggestions
Instead she focused on positioning herself via control of the Ministry, manipulating and controlling on a planet by planet basis the religious core tenants and teachings of the Empire, and alliances made with powerful Cardinals (thanks to Psaltarian) to prepare for an execution of her brothers to allow for her take over
However, she wanted to make sure she would have a legacy to leave the Empire to, so she and Psaltarian began to try for a child
They discovered through much trial and difficulty that she was infertile
So when Psaltarian found an opportunity to get her children from the bloodline (Copia and Perpetua), he took it
Marika adores her boys and tries her best to keep them close, even as they age
This, in addition to Imperator (who is her best friend) coupling herself to Nihil has caused him to become an exception in her plans, as she feels indebted to him for sharing his kids, and because she knows he has no real interest in leadership, so he of all his brothers would rather give his position to her willingly so long as he was still granted societal privileges
Marika's plans for conquest is still in motion, and she is currently carefully and subtly arranging the chess pieces for her plans
Her goal is to be able to do it just in time for Psaltarian to retire, so that he can rest in a life of luxury with no worries hanging over his head
Her biggest worry currently is Primo, who she is relatively certain knows something of her plans

ANYWAY I'd love to hear your thoughts about any of the older ghouls especially Nihil's ghouls considering all his antics please and thank youuuuu

Here's some old ghouls
Nihils ghouls are funky. Nihil couldn't figure out how to summon without help, so Sister had to assist. And since Nihil can't summon, he also couldn't tap into that afterlife energy stuff that makes a ghoul. So Sister dug up some dead people for him and now those are the ghouls.
This makes them pretty strange. Unlike a standard ghouls, they don't take their masks off, and they don't speak. They still have other ways to communicate though. Parts of their bodies also didn't fully transform, so they look a little Frankensteins monster-y
Nihil is kinda scared of them at first. But the more he works with them he gets more curious and learns how to communicate with them. Earth is his favorite.
The chamber ghoulettes mainly follow Sister around, but they also bother Marika sometimes. Basically any woman they feel needs their assistance at any moment. They appear when they want to and help when they want to. Unlike the 0 ghouls, they hide their faces because they only deem a few people worthy of seeing them. Sister and Marika have, at least.
They scare Nihil, and Sister considers them allies. Not exactly friends, she has mixed feelings on ghouls. But she still values them. Marika likes them quite a bit, and Psaltarian feels wary around them.
These batches of freaks. They are technically just as old as Primo's ghouls, if not a bit older. Thing is no one actually knows where they came from. Marika just heard Copia scream one day and came in to see him surrounded by 7 foot tall plague doctors. Secondo and Terzo had a similar experience finding little Copia being followed by skeletons one day too.
They just follow Copia. Everywhere. They appear whenever they want to and seem attached to Cope specifically, which unnerves literally everyone. What do they want. Nobody knows. What did baby Copia do to accidentally summon them...
I did it!!! Here's my favorite part from chapter 1, done in my style.
This took me over 2 hours to do. I already knew it took quite a bit of time to make the chapters, but I have new respect for you.
This has also taught me more about angles and lighting than years of reading about it. I can only pray that these redraws get better over time, though I am quite proud of this one.
(Yes, that is Primo next to Secondo, I personally draw him with hair all the time, because I refuse to accept some canon things lol.)
Whether you make this public or not doesn't matter to me, I just hope you like it.

farmer i seek your wisdoms. what do you think cardi was like growing up (childhood-young adult)? were the stoner surfer years a nightmare for his parents? did he rely on any of his uncles as he got older or did he lose closeness with any of them as he matured? and such of the like… terrorizing and being terrorized By his absolutely insane but tight knit family
I'm going to have to go age by age for this one! Behold my headcanons.
Child: kid Copia was easy to manage. He's rather extroverted.... but not with kids his own age. A side effect of living/growing up in a traveling circus surrounded by adults is that, while still a kid, he's better talking to adults or at least teens older than him than he is with kids his own age, and most of the limited experience he has talking with other kids is age are his cousins, who are in the same boat as him.
That being said, he was a weird kid. Loved to yap endlessly about things that interested him, primarily death rites, the black plague, and the rats/fleas that caused it. So long as someone halfway was listening to him, he was happy. Primo, of course, happily encouraged these interests, directing him toward other macabre topics and hoping he latched onto those as well (always hopeful for another psycho in the family). Terzo, I honestly think, didn't know what to do with kids and avoided him like the plague (ha). Secondo... okay this might be a stretch but hear me out. Uncle Secondo has kids, so he was very good at (initially by Marika's request, later by habit) looping in Copia with whatever he was doing with his kids. He accidentally got Cardi into ballet when he dragged C along with the rest of his kids to watch his daughter's performance of the Nutcracker (it was not very good, but C got very excited about the king rat and it eventually bled into an overall interest in ballet that Psaltarian was silently thankful for). Nihil... Nihil wasn't around the circus enough at this point for them to build a solid established relationship dynamic, but when Nihil did come around to visit, they got along fairly well! Nihil generally was only around for special events so he was cheery and goofing off, happy to entertain, and that was primarily how Cardi saw him.
Teen: most of Copia's teen years were in California and therefore more isolated from the rest of the family. A lot of the bonds he had at the time shriveled and died from distance and changing personalities. He grew a bit closer with Terzo at this age, technically, because they both enjoyed getting high and eating cheese, but while C preferred talking about stupid shit, Terzo was too busy doing stoned philosophy, so they still weren't technically "close."
Psaltarian will begrudgingly admit that teen Cardi is easier than he thought, mostly because he doesn't give a shit if C gets high, unlike most parents, so long as he doesn't stink up the house. Cardi is better at talking to his peers at this point, but only once he really knows them, so it's really just the same group of five or so boys that like to come to the beach house to surf, then get high in the garage and beg for sugary cocktails from Marika. C does well enough in school, it's not like he as to worry about applying to college, so his Bs and occasional Cs serve him just fine. Actually, because he and Marika drilled him so hard about English while learning the language, he excels in writing. His teachers even want to encourage him picking up a career in editing. I mean, he can't, his life has already been planned for him after high school, but it's nice he has the option. Until the Incident. Cardi takes a risk while surfing he doesn't calculate well, and ends up crashing on the rocks. Breaks his hip, gets a nasty concussion, almost drowns. Cardi recovers, but the concussion and lack of air/years of weed combined into some nasty lasting damage. The concussion actually causes his struggles to focus, gives him issues with audio processing. He feels dumber, has troubles sleeping, and the hip injury messed with his balance enough he can't surf anymore. Cardi in his last few years of teenhood/into his early adulthood when he's being inducted into his new role in his faith is miserable, snapping at people who are trying to help him because he feels like he should be able to do this on his own. Marika babies him a little, which drives Psaltarian nuts because "that's not what C needs, he needs support in being able to do these things on his own." He thinks leaving Cardi to sink will eventually force him to swim. Both are probably not the right approach, but the end result is a cardinal who both had to work hard to get to where he is and who got dragged upwards because of nepotism, which makes C more uncomfortable with his position and trying to figure out where he stands.
