Giovanni Lopez
Okay so today in Mexico protests were held in Guadalajara, Jalisco regarding the death of Giovanni López who on the 4th of May went out of his house and wasn't using a face mask, four cops arrested him for it, and the next morning his body showed up, he had been tortured to his death, when the police was confronted they denied everything as well as everyone in their department.
The protests in the United States from the Black Lives Matter movement inspired the people of Jalisco to do the same, protest, and so they took to the streets on June 4th, the protesters never had intention of being peaceful due to the time or the conditions that we Mexicans already live in fueling too much anger, police brutality, people keep disappearing and it's cops and crime lords, the fucking impunity, the lack of employment, the inattention to the pandemic and actual solutions, the police's neglect of actual crimes in favor shaking down people over petty crimes and even inventing ones, which already has people fending for themselves and theirs only, and now this bullshit over a face mask and the fact that no policemen were charged over this death when there's proof of the cops taking Giovanni López and abusing him from the get go.
So far the protests have managed to rattle the feathers of the body governments that control the police and an investigation into the department seems to have been opened, tomorrow another protest will be held.
And about the footage: it shows the moment a protester sets a cop on fire, and the way the police were already swarming the protestors since they were graffiting the walls of the government buildings in the town's center, and destroying and setting fire to police cars and clashing with them... and I couldn't be happier with my people.
El pueblo exige justicia para el señor Giovanni López, y que así sea, FUCK THE POLICE.

TW: police brutality, murder
About a month ago, ten Mexican cops arrested and murdered Giovanni López, a construction worker from Jalisco, for not wearing a mask. The town’s mayor offered the family 200,000 pesos (less than 10k dollars) to keep it quiet and threatened to kill them if they didn’t. The family still spoke up.
The cops responsible are still in the streets. They haven’t been fired or suspended.

Now I am not going to say this sort of shit doesn’t happen in our country, because it definitely fucking does, so much so that it hasn’t been news in forever. Which is what brought the following thought to mind
Guys i know our country, i know the way they try to point our attention at a problem while causing an even bigger one behind our back. When they tried to cover “la ley de extinción de dominio” in addition to “la denuncia ciudadana anonima” with some loud controversial news (and if you dont know what those are do look them up). With the intention to drown out the fact that they’re building a web of laws that can “legally” help them create charges from thin air in order to crush anyone who stands up to them. Among many many manyyyy other things.
This brings me to what felt sketchy about the murder of Giovanni. The first case being that the governor of Jalisco, radical as he is (i am definitely not defending his measures against the pandemic), is going against the president’s whole “we can go outside everything will be okay” vibe. Trying to take more important measures against the pandemic is essentially exposing the president’s effort as “not good enough”, which could potentially make him or his administration REACT, which as we already know, he does a lot because he’s such a viceral old man. Now if this pandemic has exposed one thing (among many) about our president most of all, our government, our social media, and our people themselves it is how fast and effective the spread of of fake news is.
If Giovanni’s case is real, which if it is i hope to god justice is served, and if it isnt we will make it so. The police, the governor of jalisco, the president and every asshole involved will get what they deserve.
But if it ISNT, and this is just another sensationalist bit of news, taking advantage of the current BLM movement, which is such a cowardly and selfish bullshit thing to do, to distract us from some other shit... well
All i can say for now is be weary. AMLO is going out to oversee his dumbass train and is facing backlash for it already. The amount of cases and deaths from covid are still rising, and the protests are starting. everything, and i mean everything looks dark for us and we will only come through if we stay ahead of the game. Watch out for any new laws, watch out for what they dont want you to notice
Now for all i know the news may also be real, but unlike most of the cases of police brutality in mexico, it may be getting so much coverage because it is, quite unfortunately, a trending topic.... and i don’t doubt for one second that this bastard and his administration wouldn’t hesitate to use this bit of news to cover up their own crimes, mistakes, and short comings
In any case EL ESTADO Y ANDRES PAGARAN POR SUS ABUSOS

JUSTICIA PARA GIOVANNI LOPEZ
can y’all do me a favor and sign this petition?
Giovanni López was a 30 year old man who was murdered (severe head trauma since he was beaten to death) by 10 policemen in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico for not wearing a mask. He had his mask in his hand.
Jalisco’s governor offered 200,000 pesos to the family so they wouldn’t post the video...

I know that Mexico isn't as relevant in terms of racism as the usa so I understand if almost none of you have heard what's happening on México right now.
Hundreds of people went out to the streets to claim justice for Giovanni Lopez brutally murdered at the hands of the police officers on the fourth of May in a municipality of the state of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Giovanni a 30 year old bricklayer got arrested by police officers for not wearing a mask while dinning out with his family , he was then beaten and taken then into custody.
Giovanni Lopez's family would find him the next day at the hospital, dead and with a shot in his leg and severe head trauma y because by the words of the hospital ''the police got carried away''.
His brother Christian says that his brother Giovanni, their aunt and himself were heading out of dinner when the police started to attack them, Giovanni’s brother and his aunt managed to escape but Giovanni didn’t, his last words were recorded on tape saying ''Don't do anything to me!'.
The municipality's president Eduardo Cervantes Aguilar through a third party tried to bribe Giovanni's aunt by offering 200 thousand pesos (9,159.77 dollars) he also threatened to murder them if they made the tape public.
Enrique Alfaro the president of the state of Jalisco commented about the protest on twitter @EnriqueAlfaroR ''I'm sure they wanted us to get hooked and that we turned to be violent, today we acted with dignity and we'll keep doing it'' he also said that Giovanni wasn't arrested for not wearing a face mask but for being violent
Sadly Giovanni's case wasn't a isolated event in México, the murder of Oliver López joins the list, this time in a state closer to the border, the date was 29 of March, Oliver Lopez was arrested and murdered on broad daylight in the state of Tijuana by the police, in a way too similar to George Flloyd's case, tackled and chocked to death by the officer's boot on his neck.
The response of the police was to remark that Oliver was under the effects of some kind of drug and was throwing rocks to the passbyers while his family insists that Mr. Lopez didn't resist to the arrest in any way.
Today we join Oliver and Giovanni's families in their claim of justice and remember that they didn't die they were murdered.
