It's far from over yet (I hope) but I'm done with today's part of the exam - the interview went terrible I was so scared I completely blocked down, the drawing was alright for someone who never practiced colour pencil studies. Also I cut down on all the Judas Priest because of fear of annoying my mom... she's gone to Lake Balaton tho, so maybe I'll turn it back on.
What was the last thing that made you smile?
Does it count that I had to force a smile talking to 12 teachers at the same time all judging me?
If you’re in quarantine/self-isolation, is there anything you’d like to achieve in this time?
I'm not I'm not I'm not!! Finally a summer, a real summer! Well, I mean I'll only get my second shot on the 2nd of July, but I'm almost there. And what I want to achieve in this freedom? Complete debauchery.
Post a selfie (only if you’re comfortable!)
I still do not really know how to take a selfie, but please appreciate my eyeliner I had fun with it. At the same time ignore how old I look in that first pic - I'm just exhausted from exams... (posting too selfies because that does look better hehe)
I tag @crunchyspicysalmon, @satinrevolver, @barbarella and @psihokracija if you wanna! No pressure at all, also do feel free to do this without the selfie question if you wanna leave that part out! 🍒
There is no real going back. Though I may come to the Shire, it will not seem the same for I shall not be the same. I am wounded with knife, sting, and tooth, and a long burden. Where shall I find rest?
Glorfindel of Rivendell meets Glorfindel of Gondolin
Glorfindel sat on his bed contemplating all the things in life he had ever done wrong. It was his usual morning exercise, and it generally only lasted a minute or so, seeing as he was practically perfect.
He took a deep breath of the pine-scented summer air and stretched up and then down.
‘Good morning!’ he sang to the birds gathered at his windowsill.
Elrond came in flanked by his sons. They all had an excessive amount of shiny little star crowns around their heads because they were part Ainu and they could do that. It was a wee bit irritating since Glorfindel could not do that despite all the cool powers he had been given when he’d volunteered to go back to Middle-earth and be amazing.
‘Glorfindel,’ Elrond said, wringing his hands. ‘I have terrible news.’
Glorfindel frowned. Hearing that Elrond had terrible news was his third least favourite thing to hear first thing in the morning (after the roar of a Balrog and the breaking down of city gates).
Elladan sat down next to Glorfindel, which perked Glorfindel up a bit as this close proximity meant that they might wrestle. Wrestling was one of his favourite things to do first thing in the morning.
Elrond sank down onto Glorfindel’s green velvet armchair. Elrohir perched on the arm.
‘Yes, what is it?’ Glorfindel asked. ‘Don’t leave me in suspense.’
‘Ada opened a door to the past,’ Elrohir said.
Elrond nodded gravely.
‘Wait what,’ Glorfindel stammered. ‘Wait.’ All hope of wrestling vanished from his mind, which was unfortunate, as wrestling would very soon be in the picture. ‘What’s… what’s a door to the past?’ Glorfindel queried. He couldn’t imagine it would be good. The past was very, well, bad, to put it bluntly. He chewed on his lip. ‘Not to… not to the first age, I hope?’
‘I’m so, so sorry,’ Elrond said.
Glorfindel swallowed. He was imaging armies of Balrogs! He was picturing Morgoth in full power! He was contemplating Ancalagon breaking down mountain ranges.
‘Can I come in yet?’ an all too familiar voice asked from the other side of the door.
‘Yes, yes,’ Elrond said. ‘I don’t know how to break this to you,’ he said to Glorfindel, ‘but, well...’ He waved at the door as Glorfindel walked in.
Glorfindel sprang to his feet. It was very alarming to see a person who looked just like you walk into your room, and he said that out loud right away.
‘It is very alarming to see a person who looks just like you walk into your room!’ Glorfindel exclaimed.
‘I mean it’s really not,’ Elladan said. Elrond and Elrohir nodded their agreement.
‘Yes, but,’ Glorfindel said.
‘Hi,’ said Glorfindel.
Glorfindel shook his head and rubbed his eyes. Glorfindel was still there.
Glorfindel stared at Glorfindel.
‘Well, I never,’ said Glorfindel.
‘Honestly,’ Glorfindel added.
‘I opened a door to the past,’ Elrond said. ‘And, well, you came out of it.’
‘Nice to know I’m still alive in the third age!’ said Glorfindel, smiling brightly.
‘Well, there’s a bit of a catch to that,’ Glorfindel muttered. He shook his head. ‘Is… is the door to the past still open?’
Elrond shook his head.
‘What’s the catch?’ Glorfindel asked Glorfindel.
‘Um, hmm, um,’ said Glorfindel, trying to figure out the best way to tell yourself that you die a very painful Balrog-y death.
Glorfindel frowned.
‘I’m sorry,’ Glorfindel said to Glorfindel. ‘But you died nobly! Just, ah, you might want to cut your hair.’ He frowned. ‘Wait. Elrond, wait. If I’m not there when…’ he paused, looking at himself.
‘You’re not there when what?’ Glorfindel said with a shine of curiosity in his bright eyes.
‘When...’
Glorfindel’s face fell just as hard as Gondolin.
‘Yeah, the first age is not a good time,’ Glorfindel said.
‘Well, what’s the third age like?’ asked Glorfindel.
‘We’re fighting Sauron,’ Elrond said. ‘Again.’ He sighed, as Elrond is wont to do.
‘But there’s two of you now,’ Elladan said, ‘so maybe we’ll win!’
‘Right,’ said Glorfindel of Rivendell, which was not something he usually called himself due to the rhyme, but which he was now calling himself to make the narration easier, as one does, when one is a polite Balrog-slayer.
‘Is he as strong as you?’ asked Elrohir, which is what led to the aforementioned wrestling, but it went on for far too long to be interesting to write, though I would pay good money for a video. Glorfindel of Rivendell, however, eventually had mastery of Glorfindel of Gondolin.
‘Interesting,’ Elrond said. ‘Well, I think we have a new plan for dealing with Sauron now.’
‘Indeed,’ said Glorfindel of Rivendell.
‘We’re going to fight Sauron?’ said Glorfindel of Gondolin.
Long was the way that fate them bore, O'er stony mountains cold and grey,
Through halls of iron and darkling door, And woods of nightshade morrowless.
The Sundering Seas between them lay, And yet at last they met once more,
And long ago they passed away In the forest singing sorrowless.
I am assuming this is about songs that came out this year. Which I listened to exactly 0 of. So... A song that feels like this year so far, I'm gonna choose. Also one I discovered recently. Let's say Don't Go by Judas Priest because I'm afraid June wasn't the last time it'll suit my life.
11: How did you first find out about your favorite band/singer?
YouTube kept recommending (Don't Fear) The Reaper. And I thought it was nice but that's all. And then it started recommending Then Came the Last Days of May and Astronomy, so eventually I checked them out and then I didn't listen to anything else for months.
19: How did you feel about music as a kid?
I liked music a normal amount I think! Wasn't as important to me as it is now, but I remember I've always liked it loud. And then late middle school early high school it started helping me through a lot, so now I couldn't imagine life without music.
36: What are some songs whose lyrics you relate to?
Before the Kiss, a Redcap by BÖC - but I wouldn't if not for the music accompanying it.
Time by Pink Floyd - I know, not very unique
April by Deep Purple - I relate to the whole song not just the lyrics tho
Summer's Almost Gone by The Doors - I cry to that song every September ever since I've first heard it
49: What are your favorite album covers?
Now that's a question very much meant for me!! Here's some favourites no particular order:
Tyranny and Mutation (Blue Öyster Cult) - those patterns just work so well!
Earth Rocker (Clutch) - I adore the style in which it is drawn also the colours and the pattern details!!
Gun (The Gun) - just look at those demon things also wow the colours and style
Rocka Rolla (Judas Priest) - love the vintage advertisement style plus it's a really fun concept
Polygondwanaland (King Gizzard) - idk, just look at it!
Santana (Santana) - the skill! the hidden details! the power! I am obsessed!
52: Do you collect vinyls? If so, what have been your best finds?
No. 😢 They are so gosh darn expensive, and I do not (yet) have a working record player. my mom has like three Doors albums and Vadászat by Hobo Blues Band tho, which is very awesome. If I ever get the chance I really wanna buy Deep Purple by Deep Purple too, I feel like I need to own that album.
a little late but: top 5 favourite cql subplots and top 5 things that inspire you to create art? 💕
Hi! ✨
Top 5 CQL subplots! Oh my, it's hard to pick just a few but I'm gonna go with:
- the ongoing beef between Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng is one of my main sources of amusement, I just love their bitch to bitch hostility so much
- the entire golden core's beautiful and painful mess and then the reveal and then the second reveal, jesus----
- Sizhui actually being A-Yuan!! and then the fact that lwj found and raised him!! and gave him that courtesy name!! please spare my heart!!
- Renaissance man/mad scientist Wei Wuxian and his inventions makes my scientist heart super proud 💖
- Wei Wuxian and the Wens having their little found family in Burial Mounds. I just think there's something so incredibly touching about wwx turning a place of death and suffering that harmed him so much into a haven filled with growth and rebirth :')
Top 5 things that inspire me to create art! Honestly you can get inspo from everything, but some of the main ones would be:
- other people's art!! like I find new pics that make me go “GOD I WANNA DRAW LIKE THAT” every single day
- music!! like basically you sometimes find a song and immediately think "oh this is definitely about X"; a lot of my pics have their specific songs, or even full playlists that I make to get in the mood when drawing them!
- idk just... colors?? like I sometimes see a color combination in a photo or other piece of art or see a color palette and the idea of how I can use them just appears in my head ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- things that I wish we knew [more] in canon - so basically I sometimes like to use my art to fill in the gaps in places where I feel like we didn't get enough info or that were only briefly mentioned and make me go "wait no I wanna know more about that!!" [basically "FINE I guess I'm gonna have to do this myself" lmao]
- [okay idk if I can phrase this one properly but:] this is kinda connected with the first point, but I find art speedpaints/process videos super inspiring because you can actually see that it’s possible to make something like that, that the final piece didn’t appear out of the blue and that if that artist could get that awesome thing from just a messy sketch at first, then maybe I can as well!
