Step by step... Coming out

Yikes, according to some activists in the LGBTQ community coming out is the most important thing and you should do it ASAP with everyone... and it’s a mandatory thing to do in order to support the community.

Wow...wow... stop... I got lost in all of this. Isn’t the whole ‘cause’ about respecting each other and being able to be normal? (we are already normal, but you know what i mean) So, why pushing people to come out all at once? I’m no lgbtq+ activist and for now I don’t feel like that is my path. I’m still trying to find out who am I and where do I fit in. 

I agree on something... coming out is important, I mean... it’s the start of a journey to being who you are and letting know people who you are. But, still, coming out is something that should be done at a different pace for everyone. Some people are happy telling everyone at once, some others tell a significant portion of their acquaintances and some others (like me) select very carefully who and when to come out to each person in our lives. 

I know for a fact that by the time I’m writing this post I’ve came out to 7 people... but who knows if week I’ll decide that it is time to tell everyone I know... I mean is my thing to share, isn’t it? and it’s not a mandatory thing in order to support the community. I’m 100% sure that most people in the community are happy that you have accepted yourself for who you are or at least they should.

Some of us are not meant to be full-time activists, but the whole idea of the community is to feel that you belong somewhere and that you are supported by other thousands of people that are going or have gone through the same thing. 

The coming out journey is always personal. Just like the man in the picture, we are walking at our own pace with our own baggage of things, step by step towards a new reality. And, it is scary most of the time but at the end there is something special waiting for you. It can be one person or a whole community. 

The important thing to have in mind is to take your time. But also be careful and think about time very wisely. Because it’s true that we can wait years before coming out, but it’s also true that the time we lose not being ourselves can’t be recovered. 

If you are a catholic/christian person like me and you’re having doubts, trust me why on earth a God that is love would create a person that has no right for love... it doesn’t make sense! God is love and he loves you know matter who you love.
