D&D don't love these characters. They focused (poorly) on the story. But they treated every character like shit. They made Jon go back to where he started, to the Night's Watch, to where he was betrayed and *literally* murdered and didn't let him stay with his family after he learned that he wasn't, after all, a bastard. We never knew how he felt about his true parents, how he felt after knowing what his mother and Ned sacrificed for him. He finally saw defeated the thing he feared the most for years, the white walkers, and we never got to know his thoughts. He was just a plot device to kill Daenerys. They made Arya end up alone, after she decided she just wanted to go home and become, again, Arya Stark of Winterfell. They had her reconcile with Sansa, reunite with Jon and sleep with Gendry, people who loved her, after all the shit she's been through since her father was killed, just to go back to the "oh she's not like the other girls!!!" bullshit and let her be alone. Again. They made Sansa Queen in the North, yes, but at what cost? She fought for the North because of what it meant to her family, and now she's there, well, alone, just like Arya. Basically, they tried to sold us the picture of the Stark family together again, "the pack survives", but in the end, they all went separate ways. What brings me to Bran , or the Three-Eyed Raven, since he's been saying for the last two fucking seasons that he's not Bran Stark anymore. Well, take that, now you're KING BRAN THE BROKEN. Literally, people died so Bran could become the Three-Eyed Raven, and for what? His whole storyline was about how he got there, and it was no fucking use. He's in a position he doesn't want, in a place he shouldn't be at. They made Jaime say out loud that he never cared for the innocent, just so they could justify a "poetic" scene of him and Cersei dying together. They made him go North by himself, knowing very well how he'd be recieved there, to fight for the living, just to go back and do nothing while people were being burned alive (his greatest fear after serving under the Mad King). They made him look at Brienne the way he did, fight alongside her, knight her, just to left her crying. It's not him. They made Cersei die cyring in her brother/lover arms, pregnant, after she just looked at how her armies were defeated from a balcony. Cersei Lannister, first Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, the mind behind the explosion of the Sept of Baelor, had no other plan but to stay still watching Daenerys burn down her city. And then went out sobbing in the arms of the brother who betrayed her. What a waste. They made Brienne stay in King's Landing and become lord commander of the Kingsguard. Not in the North, where she could have been queensguard to Sansa and keep honoring the oath she made to Catelyn. Not in Tarth, where she longed to be, with her father, who she was so close to and hasn't seen in years. No, she stayed with a king she owes nothing to, probably haunted in every corner of the Red Keep with the memory of Jaime and what it could have been if his character development hadn't been butchered They made Tyrion end up alone as well, watch his brother's lifeless body, realising it's the queen he put is faith in who caused his death. They had him convince Jon to kill his queen, Daenerys, who had named him Hand, the first person who ever believed in him like he deserved. And last but not least, they made Daenerys Targaryen, first of her name go mad with no explanation whatsoever just so they could justify her murder at Jon's hands. Daenerys fucking Targaryen died in the arms of a guy. Her last words were "we break the wheel together". She died. At the hands. Of some dude. After she became ruler of the Dothraki and the Unsullied, after she sailed across the Narrow Sea, after she became the Mother of Dragons, after she freed slaves and defeated every tyrant who ever dared to try to stop her. She ended up alone, out of her mind, and stabbed by the man she loved. I'm not saying I wanted a happy ending for all the characters. I didn't. They could have said goodbye to the characters in a way that respected them, that showed us they care about them, just like us. Like they did with Theon, or with Jorah. Their deaths were heartbreaking, but they felt right. What we got in the end was a last season in which most of our favourites either ended up alone, died in a meaningless way, or betrayed their own characters. And it sucks. Because after all these years and at the end of the whole story, you'd think that the creators of the show feel just as much love for the characters as you do. But they don't. They just don't give a shit.
