Couples that slaughter together stay together
They were armored all in ice, but she bathed them in dragonfire and they melted away like dew. Some small part of her knew that she was dreaming, but another part exulted. This is how it was meant to be. The other was a nightmare, and I have only now awakened.
Can't believe game of thrones killed more major characters when Cersei blew up the Sept than it did in the ultimate battle against the Night King
“Is it not wiser, even kinder, that Daenerys Targaryen should die now so that tens of thousands might live?” ... “I will not be part of murder, Robert.” -AGOT, Eddard VIII
-8.03
I had to stop reading when I read that sentence, because it hit me hard, especially as we go into the Battle for Winterfell. Of course, they try to kill her anyways, but Ned standing up for her is important.
He tries to stop the murder of a fourteen year old girl, even though others try and tell him that it’s for the greater good. And now, here she is, fighting at Winterfell, alongside Ned’s children, for the greater good, so that tens of thousands might live.
Poetic cinema.
Safe-
Daenerys Targaryen-If gonna die, won’t be until last ep.
Jon snow-same as Dany.
Sansa Stark- queen will live
Arya Stark- ha! I’d like to see someone try
The Night King-where’s the fun in that?
Bran Stark- no drama if he dies now
Sandor Clegane-Cleganebowl is needed
Gendry-so many loose threads
Sweating it-
Tyrion Lannister-could’ve predicted own death 💀
Jaime Lannister-may die in Briennes arms as a reformed person
Samwell Tarly-better not touch my Samwell!
Gilly-the dead are defo getting in the crypts so might die
Missandei- She’s happy, GOT doesn’t allow that 😂
Grey Worm-see above
Tormund-might die protecting the big woman
Podrick Payne-could’ve given him more screen time last week just to screw us over
Screwed-
Davos Seaworth-he’ll die saving the Shireen lookalike in the crypts (like he wishes he could’ve done for Shireen)
Theon Greyjoy-he was doomed the minute he volunteered to watch Bran
Brienne of Tarth-finally got her dream to be knighted
Jorah Mormont- Had moment of family time last week, given Jon Longclaw, served Dany purpose (could be Lyanna though bc GOT ain’t got a problem killing a kid *cough* sorry Shireen and Ned *cough*)
I have an opinion
Spoiler alert for the 3rd episode
Ok so I don't want to throw any shade and I don't want to sound hateful because I am not but I do have very mixed feelings on the turn that game of thrones took after this episode.
First of all I'd like to say a word about the Night King and more importantly, his death.
In my opinion and I know I'm not the only one who thinks this way, the king's death left me rather... Dissapointed. Of course it was a big shocking twist that it was Arya that killed him and not Jon or Daenerys (though I think it should've been Jon a bit more) but if you think about it, when it comes to the lore we were introduced to this past seven seasons it really doesn't make much sense.
I think that if it was Jon or Daenerys not only would it be accurate to the lore (Azor Ahai or TPTWP being from Aerys and Rhaella's line) but it would also create a lot of tension for the next episodes.
If Jon killed the NK maybe the Lannister army found out about it and realized "Well damn the king of the north just won a war with a seemingly unbeatable opponent? Maybe he should be king of Westeros not Cersei after all? I mean,, he went out there and won while our current queen stayed here and didn't do shit." It'd also restore the northerners trust in him and further the conflict between him and Dany. That would be a great moment to show where her true values lie- will she give the throne to Jon because he: 1. has the birthright to it and 2. because he just saved the world or will she try for it regardless.
If Daenerys killed the NK maybe the Lannister army found out about it and realized "Well damn the mother of dragons just won a war with a seemingly unbeatable opponent? Maybe she should be queen of Westeros not Cersei after all? I mean,, she went out there and won while our current queen stayed here and didn't do shit". The north would realize they should've trusted her more because she just saved them and they'd have a much better reason to march with her for the throne.
Arya, while she was a badass, didn't have much to do with the walkers story wise. In my opinion a much more satisfying way to expand her character would be if she was the one to kill Cersei. After all she was one of the very few people still on Arya's list which seemed to play a big part in her arc. She could've crossed another name from that list by killing off the mountain for example.
How? Maybe during the Cleganebowl Sandor was losing and Arya could've saved him like he saved her back in Winterfell. I feel like that could've been a very sweet moment between the two furthering their relationship and a way of making them even.
I don't think that what Melisandre prophesized for Arya about the eyes was really foreshadowing to her killing the NK as much as it was just about the fact that Arya would go on and become one of the greatest assasins Westeros has ever seen.
Of course we don't really know what the end would be but if it turned out Arya was the one to kill Cersei as well as the NK I feel like that would be too much for one character that wasn't really foreshadowed to do this much in any prior seasons so if I had to choose a character to kill Cersei the way the story is progressing now I'd choose Jaime.
Maybe this turn of events wouldn't be too exciting or it wouldn't be much of a plot twist but it would provide a satisfying finale and it wouldn't feel like they were disregarding the way the story played out as much. Sacrificing the lore for shock value will never work and is just bad storytelling so I think D&D really shot themselves in the knee on this one.
(Also if they wanted to go for shock value imo they just should've killed more characters like they already did all these seasons.)
Anyways that is just my opinion, thank you for taking the time to read it and you're welcome to share your point of view. I'm definitely open to debate.
After The Battle
Gendry sat atop a heap of the dead.
His breath still heaving and forehead sweating.
Tormund looked around frantically before his eyes landed on his large and alive lady.
Gendry thought back to before the battle and wondered too if his small lady was alive.
With that bitter and terrifying thought, Gendry stumbled back onto his feet and began his long search through the crumbled Winterfell.
By the time his eyes fell on her he was beyond frantic.
His breath finally stilled.
She sat in the Godswood. Shivering yet faceless.
His hammer slipped from his blood-soaked hand thumping to the ground.
She looked up...
And her faceless mask bust like the Whites had moments prior as she ran into her smith's warm embrace.
