regulus black isn't goth in the traditional sense, regulus just really enjoys goth media. him being emo is too real to me i love it deeply, he also rlly enjoys vkei i believe in that deeply too

🦇Goth characters not talked about enough: Den Siva and the Nagai from Star Wars legends

Happy world goth day! Did you know there is an entire race of 80s goth-looking characters in the Star Wars comics from the 70s? Den Siva was part of a Nagai invasion force to take over the galaxy, and his story is like something straight from the mind of Mary Shelly.

Den captures a Zeltron woman named Dani, and to fuel his obsession with studying her kind, he subjects her to painful experiments. He becomes increasingly infatuated with her and her ability to withstand torture.

The Nagai are raised to value strength and power. But during his experiments with Dani, he grows to treasure things like beauty, emotion, and kindness.

Later, during the war against the Tofs, Den betrays his own kind to save Dani’s life. Dani never fully forgives him, and they don’t become a “happy couple,” which is important to me.

I think it’s pretty neat how they created a goth character and gave him a pretty gothic backstory. I highly suggest reading these comics. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

i finally got around to watching elvira: mistress of the dark!

to sum it up, i had a lot of fun, and was genuinely saddened when it was over. i didnt do much research ahead of time on the movie, just kinda jumping in blind, but i realized quickly that it was a comedy. and it was a fun one! the town is quite funny in their judgements of elvira, like their criticisms of her are so over the top and cartoonishly evil, it kinda reminds me of how people in real life react to goth people. its just. very silly. i also like the foreshadowing, like the shot of her ring at the beginning glinting in the light, said ring becoming important later in the film.

i think the sprinkles of inspiration from goth culture are definitely there, particularly in the sounds of the music (when it isnt licensed).

...also, this immediately reminded me of siousxie and the banshees.

anyways, in conclusion, i had fun, it made me happy, and this would be a movie i see myself watching a second time, fo sho!

i hope the sequel is just as good. hardy har

I think that’s where the possible confusion comes in. Like, I was inspired to review the movies Sangre Eterna and Esto No Es Berlin and the show Los Espookys specifically because they featured music by bands I’d talked about (Aldearoja, Hoffen, and Varsovia, for people who’ve forgotten), but I feel most wouldn’t consider at least two of those explicitly “goth/music”-related (heck, Esto No Es Berlin was more postpunk/new wave than “goth” specifically). On the other side, I reviewed that Deathrock book because it was related to the genre, but it wasn’t about something in Latin America specifically or by an author of Latin American heritage, though I mostly justified it with “some important deathrockers were/are Latino.” 

Ultimately, I think, going forward, I’m just going to focus on music with my channel, but maybe occasionally shout out other media that features songs by these bands or whatever, but not focus whole videos on them.
