Memento Vivi - Chapter 19: the Irregulars
After a grueling Sunday of magical research and patrol, Damian needs to spend some time with normal people. Mother has not returned, she must still be with the D.E.O., so Damian didn’t have to talk to her about her lies. Father tried to bring it up on patrol – he asked Damian how he knew Mother was going to be using a listening device, and Damian explained what he’d seen. Father had just said hm in response, and nothing further. Noncommittal? Embarrassed about his own ignorance? Covering for Mother? Damian couldn’t really bring himself to care. keep reading to see the Gotham Irregulars show up!
Batman and Robin #26
I loved seeing Damian interact with the Gotham irregulars again!
Memento Vivi - chapter 23: Terrifying Children
Damian meets up with Father for the rest of patrol. He tells him that the situation is resolved, and he may need to use his old contacts to secure Byrne a paying job outside of crime. Father tells Damian he made the right call and says that he’s proud of him, which is just uncomfortable. It always feels like Father’s being forced to say it at gunpoint, even if he knows he’s not. Even if it may be the same decision Father would have made – why else would he have started the Wayne Enterprises program back when he was more involved with the company? But he’s just stuck there, feeling weird for no reason, thinking of how Patrick responded to hearing his father believed he was smart, with disbelief. keep reading
More Suren... and the Gotham Irregulars in this scene!
have barely been online due to getting super busy, so the chapter 22 update was never posted on tumblr if you missed it.
How much do you think Jason freaks when one of the Irregulars are sick
he’s so WORRIED about them
and of course when one of the Irregulars goes down, like a third of them end up with sniffles, and Jason’s going nuts trying to keep it from spreading
he keeps calling Alfred making sure he’s taking care of them correctly, and plying them with Gatorade and orange juice. Dr. Leslie is just so done with this whole thing because “it’s a COLD, Jason,” and “they’ll be FINE,” and “I have patients that actually need me so if you call me again so help me...”
meanwhile the kids are totally bemused because seriously it’s just a cold they get them all the time.
eventually he calms down about it a little, but WHAT IF IT’S NOT A COLD I SHOULD GO TEST THE WATER SUPPLY AGAIN
thankfully, Jason can cook without actually blowing anything up (the only one of the Batboys to be able to do so), and he makes a mean chicken noodle soup.
Have you considered the Irregulars' "I am not a villain" campaign spreading. There's a photo of Superman standing with Batman and they have signs that say "I am intersex. I am not villain" and "I have PTSD. I am not a villain" respectively
I LOVE the idea of other heroes getting in on the game! Especially Bruce awkwardly supporting Jason without actually encroaching on his territory or making the Irregulars uncomfortable (especially since a huge chunk of them probably have low-level villains as parents).
I think they’d have some other blog for lgbtqia+ representation/heroes, though they’d DEFINITELY have something! And Clark getting in on it makes me so happy! (Clark and Bruce would probably do their photo together anyway, because they’re NERDS.) (It goes absolutely viral. Lois writes an opinion piece on it that blows up.)
Dick trying to stay out of the whole Irregulars thing because he doesn't want Jason to think he's encroaching on his territory, but secretly being a huge fan. 'Cause if things had gone just a little different, and he hadn't gotten very lucky with Bruce, he would've been one of them.
Night wing never supports the Irregulars openly, at first anyways, but Tim Drake-Wayne managed to drag Dick Grayson to a protest and somehow Dick found himself chanting with the kids and having a protective hand over the younger ones. The Irregulars have Divk Grayson’s number now too, How has this happened. (He’s so proud of them. They are doing what supers like him should have done a long time ago)
At this rate, a sizeable part of gotham's population in the Irregular AU is gonna turn out to be vigilantes
Jason has somehow managed to surpass his father in terms of child hoarding.
Not gonna lie, Gotham could USE a few more vigilantes. It’s still a mess of a town, and the Batfamily can only do so much. And they may be vigilantes now, but their goal is not to NEED that kind of thing anymore.
But yeah; there’s a small swarm of child vigilantes taking the streets at this point. Jason is SO PROUD. (Bruce is proud too, but also terrified.)
