#gre studying

oh my gooooooood i have finally caught up on my magoosh lesson videos and i am in absolute awe of the amount of math, or rather math techniques, i didn’t know. literally how did i make it through high school and college lmao?? but now i’m doing all of my practice problems and i feel good actually?? right now it’s all a matter of becoming accustomed to the types of problems and their wording. i’ve got around 400 problems to go through but i feel confident that i’ll do well on the quant portion. i know i’ll do well.

i haven’t focused much on the verbal section these days because honestly i don’t really need to? i’ve always been an ace at verbal/writing. doesn’t mean i’ll neglect it though! i’ve been doing flashcards and daily problems! 

i’m also seeing a lot of people figuring out their 2021 language goals, and although i just made a study schedule, i feel a need to revamp and streamline some things too! there’s a lot of things that make my schedule clunky and are actually inhibiting me? i’ll probably break into quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily goals!

I’m planning to apply to PhD programs this fall (with the goal of attending next fall) and would love some GRE study-buddies, advice, literally anything! I don’t know many people submitting applications so I would love to have people help hold me accountable and research together. Please message me regardless of location, age, etc.

Studying for the GRE verbal reasoning section by using post-it note "flashcards" on my wall! Not only does this help me to constantly see these words (I walk past this way like 50 times per day) but I learn the definitions and can physically see how much I need to learn. Making it was so much fun and I still have a ton of words I need to add!!! I take the GRE September 28th!

I finished making my own GRE formula sheet for the Quant section!

I focused on things that I need to work on and left out redundant topics I’ve already mastered

I highly recommend looking at the Magoosh GRE Formula guide [X] , as I used it heavily. But definitely supplement it with the ETS Math Review [X] and other useful tidbits you pick up while doing practice problems. 

I feel so much better knowing I’ve at least reviewed all the topics (I had to as I was making the study guide lol) and now I have a solid foundation to take one many many practice problems

spent most of my day at work doing retention work which isn’t very mentally taxing but very time consuming. i did read an entire book while at work because there was little else to do when daily retention is done. it’s diana wynne jones’ chrestomanci series, and it reminded me of how much i loved children’s fantasy. it was the original genre i wanted to get published in, but now i believe some of my plot bunnies are a bit too mature heh

i think my period is approaching so by the time i left the clinic for the day, i was so exhausted! immediately took a nap after dinner with the roomie, and now i’m up again to finish up some GRE studying. i’m only two? three? days behind my schedule, and it’s amazing how many math concepts i don’t know but im catching up tho. i’ll be up until midnight with magooooooosh

Thinking about creating a Discord server for any and all of those studying to take the GRE this fall... I’m hoping to take it at the end of October and could use a server of study buddies and support ♡

the materials i use to study for the GRE! went through this prep book quickly so i'm using some others-- currently focusing my efforts on the 5lb book of GRE problems. i take the GRE in 5 days...wish me luck i need it so bad.

started GRE studying!

So today I took a preliminary GRE practice test to gauge what exactly I need to work on-- and it's everything. I'm insanely average and need to move by 10-15 points to be competitive! But I'm not feeling discouraged. I am actually motivated! Everyone starts somewhere and that's okay if I'm not where I want to be. I know in a month or so I will have improved!

Just letting you know it's okay to just start and be bad at it! Just keep going!!!
