For a promotional event with StarHub, neopets created the Singapore-exclusive game Subtron Space Quest. The game featured Grimilix and was released in 2003. I couldn't find much about the game or contests aside from the swf files uploaded to Archive.com. The swf files contain game assets but its not in a playable state and doesn't contain in game text. The best I can peace together from the assets and icons is that the game might have worked like a point and click adventure, with you exploring the deep interior of the Virtupets SpaceStation™

Its kinda surprising to see how much Grimilix was pushed as a sort of mascot character for neopets at that time, dispite being the loyal minion for the main villain (2003 was also when the ps1 The Darkest Faerie was in development with Grimilix as one of the playable characters)

Besides the 1million neopoints you could win from the game there were prizes form Starhub downloads for neopets merch and gift cards. But enough about that lets look at some game assets!!

I hadn't considered that what Grimilix outfit was actually a uniform. Its killing me that there is no dialog, game text or story to explain whats going on here. I want this lost Grimilix lore so bad

Randomly decided to check lostmediawiki for the ps1 version of the darkest faerie and surprised to see a bunch of stuff I hadn't seen yet since the last time I checked it

Such as this high res image from the 2003 Press Kit I'd never seen before, look there's poor Grimilix. There was also a document that confirmed that Grimilix was intended to be one of the playable charters along with Tormund and Sally

also a bunch of items an ui stuff. As far as I can tell most of the these ones weren't based on existing items, or at least I don't recognize any of the swords but that does look like sloth's cape lol

there were also a bunch of other ui concept caps that just show strait up a bunch of items strait from the site that are weird
