This old hedge of Griselinia littoralis (New Zealand broadleaf) has had the lower branches removed exposing these characterful trunks. This crown lifting has allowed more space and light for the adjacent borders as the protection of the lowered evergreen foliage was no longer needed. This shrub or tree does best in a well-drained soil in full sun.

Making a statement as you enter the garden of Brodick Castle, Isle of Arran, Scotland, on the upper terrace is the evergreen Griselinia littoralis 'Brodick Gold'. It is a sport of Griselinia littoralis 'Variegata' that originated in the garden, it is tender to freezing temperatures but is well suited to coastal locations withstanding salty air and windswept conditions. The species produces seedlings freely in this relatively frost free and moist environment that can be invasive if not weeded out.

Photosynthesis

One of the life giving factors of both in nature & science is photosynthesis. This photo may seen as just a picture of a Griselinia leaf but there is a bigger picture to this; Leafs from any plant life is a filter on this planet, takes in the carbons gases & converts them into oxygen that in our air making it a life giving factor. The reason why I did a extreme close up on the Griselinia leaf is to show the details of this process known as photosynthesis.
