I joined a “Biggest Loser” group. It’s just called that, we’re not competing with each other.
I belong to a group of youth and young adult ministers who work in the south east. There are 14-20 of us, but not everyone participates and in some areas there are more than one. There was a national meeting (that I did not go to) and while there they discussed the need for self-care on two levels. The first was the sense that ministers rarely eat well, especially those of us working with/for kids. The second was that we’re not great about allowing ourselves to support each other, because we never like to let our guards down.
So we’re going to do a healthy lifestyle challenge and get on an app together to share stories and support. No one asked me, I would have suggested Tumblr. LOL. But I really like this. No one has to lose to a goal weight, but likely a few of us will. No one has to check in all the time, but likely a few of us will. And when we get to our yearly region meeting it won’t just be “Oh, I saw on facebook that your ministry is hosting an event, how cool!” It will be “hey, how was that bean soup I recommended?? Wasn’t it great?? You look fabulous!”
I really like this idea. I don’t like the title, but I wasn’t at the meeting, and no one asked me that, either.
I have to work this weekend with my boss and his assistant for two events that are exactly the same on paper and are never the same in practice, so in order to even out some of that stress, I’m going to make a food plan. I have encouraged a few people to pre-make some low cal. slow cooker meals and have them ready in your freezer, which I haven’t done for myself, but I might do a huge meal prep morning on Saturday and make a bunch for the next few weeks.
But for tonight….. Ash Wednesday Catholics abstain from meat and “fast” but for us, that doesn’t mean no food, it means one meal, and a small one if possible. When I was a kid Ash Wednesday and Fridays in Lent meant tuna fish sandwiches and pizza. I was going to get the cauliflower crust pizza tonight with veggies, but I just discovered that my local Italian place (that delivers, bless the Lord) can do a gluten free linguini with red clam sauce. SOLD.
As soon as I get home tonight I’m going to hit the treadmill and do a quick couple of miles while the delivery gets done.
I’ve been remiss in catching up with everyone’s stories, goals, gains, misses, and inspiration. I’m hoping I’ll have time tonight to go through and really catch up. If not, Friday!
