am i growing up?
or am i growing in?
to my skin and my age and my surroundings
the niche and the bad things about me
am i moving on?
or am i moving in?
and accepting that i'll always be changing
that this life is a mess and it's amazing
i wish i could've told myself when i was a kid
nobody's really growing up
we're just growing in
you have time, kid
so just take your time, kid
you have time kid, kid, kid
I need someone to make a kristen applebees edit to growing in by maddie zahm
Retrospective: An early design
Retrospective: A design followed over two decades
Endings. Beginnings. New Year. Time to run a retrospective series, telling stories of design across a not-so-epic scale. Hopefully you’ll be amused, entertained and enlightened. THE ART GARDEN It started with a party We came into this project after meeting an architect at a party, who was working on a custom house, very clean, very chic. It was that kind of party, after all. Mecca
It often takes leaving where you are or where you've been to learn gratitude; to recognize home in a cluster of places; to witness, with dignity (or without embarrassment, at least), the initial shallowness of your wisdom; to see that you've been rushing, even though there is nothing to get to so fast. It takes going to come back.
I came back to sunrise peeking over a drowsy highway. Some people don't know what that's like--to have the soft, slate world seemingly to yourself, for a short while. Six in the morning and already 70 degrees. Fog on the glass, impermeable to light. I came back to the driver's side, filled my tank with $20, and some people don't know what that's like.
The grass is a different shade of green on the other side, but only because a different amount of rain falls there. I learn aboard an airplane that my truth is worth more than my fantasies, that there is no sense in being greedy because there is more than enough...of every single thing I could possibly need. I lack nothing. I am always naked in my house, and some people don't know what that's like.
And Michelle was right. People and their stations in our lives can and do expire. And it is not a crime. Especially when the sea rolls in and out of the shore, like lovemaking. And especially because we are like the sea--coming close, foaming at the ends, rinsing over our footprints, and, yet, leaving imprints upon our memories. It is not a crime to move on; we were born to do it. I come home and know where my salt is from. This is pleasure.
I am lucky that I cannot be everywhere at once. Otherwise, I might overlook the comfort of my bed, or the way that I am chosen over and over again by love, or the names of the roads I know. Some people will never know what I am like. And what an honor it is to know my size. It takes leaving to be welcomed back by my own life.
Obama girls join their dad for annual turkey pardoning ceremony, growing into beautiful women
The girls stepped out with their dad looking really beautiful. The first family were at the annual Pardoning Of The Turkey ritual and Obama got everyone laughing with his joke. 'It is hard to believe that this is my seventh year of pardoning a turkey. Time flies, even if turkeys don't.' the president told the crowd. More photos below;
