It’s absolutely unnecessary how attractive they made this sad grumpy woodcarver man named JONATHAN in this good Christian Christmas book. (OG post with a tiny bit more info here)
And yes absolutely im about to go into depth about the detail in this:
“You wouldn't notice his eyes, the clear blue of an August sky. And you wouldn't see the dimple on his chin, since his face was mostly hidden under a shaggy, untrimmed beard” gahdamnnnnn
I’m so glad you asked, yes in the left one he IS blushing, it’s because the kid tells him that his mom (the widow) pointed out how quiet he is and that he (the kid) should be the same and grumpy widow man and the widow mom BLUSH.
(Mentions of grief and loss, child loss below)
These two scenes absolutely destroy me. They make it clear in the beginning that our man Jonathan here is a widower. He had a wife and an infant son who got sick and died. So when he gets to the part where he needs to carve Mary and infant Jesus, he freezes. That's the scene below. (note the empty rocking chair)
This breaks my heart. He finally opens the drawer where he has hidden away the memories of his wife and child, and uses the photo of his wife and child as inspiration for the carvings of Mary and infant Jesus.
“From it he took the cloth embroidered with lilies of the valley and daisies. He took out a rough woolen shawl and a lace handkerchief. He took out a tiny white baby blanket and a little pair of blue socks. He placed each piece gently on the floor.”
“In the frame was a charcoal sketch of a woman sitting in a rocking chair, holding a baby. The baby's arms were reaching up, touching the woman's face. The woman was looking down at the baby, smiling. Jonathan sat down in his rocking chair and held the picture against his chest. He rocked slowly, his eyes closed. Two tears trailed into his beard.”
Some business trade writers are objective and let the readers form their own opinions from the provided information, and then there was Truman A. De Weese.

Drawing Einar in my current style was a process, the whole time I was confused why I gave him such bright blue hair. Thinking back to it I think it was the watercolor set I was using at the time, I distinctly remember being in love with the blue and purples in a specific palette I have received as a gift from my older sibling. I really did try to keep that bright hair but… Lord I did try 😂
Coming back to his design and lore was like seeing any old friend. In the end I decided to bring him into a modern setting with all his past lore being his origin story. My boy looks like he is only in his late 30’s but in reality he will be a few hundred years old. Originally he was designed to be a selkie but I’m probably going to change him to a Hulder- something about a grumpy man with a lil tail is tackling my humor.
With him being an OG comfort oc I may or may not made him trans ✨
I once asked myself who would win a brood-off between Kaladin and Vasher... but then again Vasher had much more time to cultivate his grumpiness, so it would be a tad unfair.
In the end they kind of teamed up and went on tour. New Album out now.
