turn their buildings into rubble and desecrate their temples.

PICK YOUR POISON -
EXPERIMENT RGVD: One of the two most important experiments living in the lab set in the dead center of the Settlement, surrounded by the buildings of the Inner District. Of course, he’s only considered important because he reacted well - and more importantly, survived the tests done on him. Every day’s the same: wake up, have tests and experiments run on his ability to make solid items out of light, go outside and exercise(while heavily supervised), lunch, more tests, one hour of free time, and then bed. But RVGD is honestly okay with this - as long as the white coats keep him fed and sheltered and comfortable, he’s okay with whatever they do to him.
EXPERIMENT CRW-ND: The pair to RVGD, the other most important experiment living in the labs. His days are the same every single day - his schedule, the tests run on his ability to control his bone growth, the things he eats, the time he sleeps at, the people he sees - namely RVGD...it’s suffocating. Anyone would want out, right?
RAT: A fifteen year old girl living in the far edges of the Outer Districts, trying to keep her sick older sister alive. Steal, rob, maim - she’ll do whatever it takes in the violent slums of the Outer Districts...for both herself and her sister.
SHEM LYNWOOD: In a world like this, many people turn to religion. It’s not encouraged, but not discouraged either - keeping the people happy is important, after all. Since his mother is the leader of their cult - sorry, religious group, he’s got a lot of responsibilities. It’s mainly taking care of his the followers and keeping them happy. A deceptively simple task - keep the mob of desperate humans drunk on religion, or die.
MISSIAH DELVEUX: There are things a girl’s gotta do to survive - and if that means joining a gang and slowly rising to the position of gang leader by being the most ruthless person she knows, then so be it! But being cruel does gain you enemies, and doing drugs that could cause your body to fall apart at any moment - a walking time bomb, if you will - only increases your risk of, well, death.
EXPERIMENT 4VNGR: There’s only one line in the files for this creature: Failed Experiment - Do Not Interact.
Six people living in the Settlement, doing what they need to do to get by every day. But the entire Settlement is thrown into disaster when one of the most prized experiments in the Settlement escapes from the labs into the civilian districts. In the chaos that ensues, all six must reevaluate themselves and their beliefs and wonder: What are they really living for? And just how far would they go to keep it safe?
i see angels when i close my eyes. they don’t look like boys with honeysuckle smiles or girls with snowy eyes.
i see towering, golden beings behind my eyelids, staffs in their many hands, eyes all over their chests and faces, lips pulled back from bloody wolf teeth bared in a feral smile; a holy army of beasts.
is it my mortality that makes me small enough for them to swallow whole?
or is it the devil’s blood underneath my fingernails?

----- WIP REINTRODUCTION
TITLE // OF TREACHEROUS SAINTS (previously known as golden eyes, golden hearts.)
GENRE // FANTASY, YA
POV // THIRD PERSON
STATUS // FIRST DRAFT
SUMMARY // Sajaa al-Hizar has her whole life planned out for her. Marry Altair despite the fact that he’s almost thirty years older than her, pop out a baby or two every year, probably die from Altair’s hand before she turns thirty. that’s what happens to every woman in the tiny desert town of Resvahar, after all. It’s not like she can leave, anyways…can she?
To distract herself from her life, she loves to hear stories about other towns, about other places in the world. She daydreams about the places she could go, the things she could eat, the sights she could see; everything that she could do if only she had the courage. If only she had the courage, she could go to the country she’s always wanted to - Carveya. She can leave her own country, Krehari for paradise on earth - if only she had the courage.
Nothing changes until Sajaa watches her pregnant best friend Khadija, one of Altair’s wives already, get beaten to death by him right in front of her. if there’s anything that motivates Sajaa, it’s herself. she can’t stay here any longer. So she manages to hitch a caravan ride out of Resvahar.
But now Sajaa is thrown into a whole new world of war, political intrigue, and betrayal. And it becomes apparent that unless she does something, her whole country will be torn apart like a rabbit in the jaws of several hungry wolves - only, Krehari serves as both the rabbit and the wolves.
excerpt below::
A woman was on the ground, screaming and crying as she tried to block blows to her head and stomach. Sajaa could see blood on her forehead, on her legs, around her lips. The man kicking her was Altair. As he stopped for breath, Sajaa sucked in a sharp breath. The woman was Khadija.
Altair stopped for barely a second before he continued to land blows on her face, her neck, her back. Around him, a crowd of dusty people stood, stony-faced. Khadija’s sobbing tore into Sajaa’s very soul, but she felt paralyzed. Sajaa could not move from the doorway. A particularly vicious kick landed right on Khadija’s round stomach. Sajaa could taste bile rising in her throat, but she swallowed it back as Khadija spit out a mouthful of blood.
“Goddamn whore - and to think I paid three goats for you! You’re worth less than the dirt at the bottom of my shoe,” snarled Altair as he aimed a violent punch at the back of Khadija’s neck. He reached down, grabbing Khadija by the arm and wrenching her to her feet. “Stand up, you filthy - rutting - bitch -” Each word was punctuated by a kick or a punch.
Khadija’s face was black with bruises, as were her shoulders and neck. Her eyes were swollen shut, her hair caked with blood. This time, Sajaa couldn’t stop the swell of nausea that rose up and overtook her. She turned to the side, heaving. Even though she wasn’t looking anymore, the sounds of Altair roaring, the solid sounds of flesh hitting flesh. Once the nausea had abated, Sajaa looked up again, slowly, shakily. Altair had let Khadija drop again.
Her sobbing had stopped, and now she just lay there, taking the beatings from Altair. Her arm was twisted in a way that made Sajaa sick, and the way she breathed - shuddering, in pain - made her think that at least one of Khadija’s ribs were broken.
She did not know how long Altair continued to beat Khadija. It may have been minutes, it may have been hours. Sajaa could only just sit there, watching unmovingly. All she could see was the purple of Khadija’s bruises, the blood of Altair’s split knuckles. All she could hear was the fleshy thuds of Altair hitting Khadija, of him screaming and cursing at her motionless body.
Finally, blessedly, someone came forward. A man who Sajaa did not know. He grabbed Altair, pulling him back.
“Stop it! Stop! Can’t you see that she’s not breathing? Pull yourself together,” the man had shouted. Altair had drawn back, breathing hard, staring at the man in confusion. “She is not breathing,” the man repeated, hands on Altair’s shoulders. “She is dead. Stop.”

━━━━━━━ ROSELYN PENHAM //
RECIPE FOR A CERTAIN MS. PENHAM:
2 cups of bitch
1 cup of sass
1 teaspoon of sweetheart
3 cups of manipulativeness
Mix well and serve hot.
If you ask anyone at Lakewood High who the Queen Bee is, they will all say Roselyn Penham.
Roselyn Penham - high school royalty. Half of the boys in school can claim her as their ex. The other half would pay her to say hi to them. And the girls...well, every single one wants something that Roselyn has, whether it’s the hair, the body, the boyfriends, the clothes, or the fearlessness. And everyone - both male or female - can tell you about the things that Roselyn has done to the kids who have gotten in her way.
She used to date Elijah Westbrook, captain of the football team - which surprised exactly zero(0) people. Until she broke up with him, that is. And not only that, she broke up with him for her ex - Isaac Khatri.
It was a blow to Elijah, a shock for Isaac, and a huge surprise for literally everyone else, but Elijah won’t take that lying down. But it doesn’t matter - Roselyn has her own agenda, and it’s anyone’s guess what she’s going for.

Both Chaska and I laugh. She takes a seat next to me again, a new book in her hand, and begins to flip through it.
“So is that all, then?” she asks. “The new kids?”
Vinn nods, but I hesitate. There is the thing with Roselyn and all, but I’m still not completely sure about whether we’re really dating again. But she called me her boyfriend, didn’t she?
“Uh, not exactly,” I say finally. “I got back with Roselyn. I think.”
Both Vinn and Chaska’s heads swivel to me. Chaska’s lips are pursed, and Vinn is frowning slightly.
“Roselyn?” Vinn asks. “And...what do you mean ‘you think’? Do you not know whether you and Roselyn got back together?”
“I mean…she called me her boyfriend,” I shrug. “We kissed a couple of times. Went out for boba. And fucked once.” That last part comes out as a squeak.
stitched lips
“why do you keep your hair so short?” you laugh.
“because it’s easier to maintain, silly.”
(my mother used to grab me by the hair and throw me into the walls)
“why do you hate making eye contact with me?” you smile.
“because anything’s more interesting than you, silly.”
(my father used to slap me if i looked him in the eye for longer than three point four seconds)
“aren’t you hungry? why do you always eat so little?” you ask.
“because i just ate, silly.”
(my parents used to force me to eat to the point where i threw up in secret every single day)
“why do you always tense up when i approach you from behind?” your fingers are trailing down my back.
“because i want to be ready for when you tickle me, silly.”
(my father would always stride behind me and bring the metal spatula down onto my back)
“why do you always look so tense when i come in from the garage?” your hands are in my hair.
“i’m making sure it’s you coming through the door, silly.”
(my parents used to come in through the garage every evening)
“why can’t you just be a normal fucking person?” your hands are clenched tight, knuckles white around the strap of your backpack.
“i didn’t ask to be like this, you goddamn asshole!”
(oh god please don’t leave i’m sorry i’m such a fucking mess)
“it’s warm outside,” you offer as you fidget with your fingers.
“i’m ready for summer!” i say, lamely.
(i love you)
