so yaaah this is what i got so far,, a blonde to pastel pink ombre! i realllllly like the pale pink tips so im debating if i wanna do a third bleach treatment on my full hair or just the blonde parts 🤔

(above art is mine from 2018-2021) I’m talking to @sandradoodles​ about our art journeys, and we talked about hair - something I happen to be very good at drawing, after years of practice and confusion. In this post I want to talk about two artists who had an impact on how I see and draw hair, and what I learned from them: @cassandracalin​ and @pernilleoe​ Here’s what I learned-

Cassandra Calin: how to build shape, shine, and texture in the hair. Her style is all about the gradual building of layers to show the dimension and softness of it. As a fellow traditional artist, this was something i could DO with just a pen, unlike a lot of the other art I saw online. This drawing belongs to her:

Pernille Orum: how to section out hair. I got lots of long, continuous, smooth lines from root to tip from her style. when you draw hair, especially in a more stylized way, a few lines can be enough to show the direction and volume. This drawing belongs to her:

These seem almost like opposite approaches to hair - one very complex and detailed, one simple and summative. But one approach taught me how to break down hair into more manageable shapes, and the other taught me how to see the complexity hidden within those larger shapes! You can see both influences on the collage at the top, and how I’ve combined the knowledge I gained from these artists and others to create my own style.

In summary: if you want to be better at something, find someone who’s solved that problem already, and see if there’s any part of their solution that you want to use in your art!

Cut, bleach and colour!!

I haven't been able to cut my own hair in a year because I didnt have clippers. But Doom Femme got me a new set for Christmas!!

Started last night with a shave and bleach. Then colour went on this morning, I usually put a shower cap over it then wear a Lush knot wrap and go about my day! No more sitting around, staring at the ceiling for hours. I've got SHIT TO DO.

So after 7 hours, wash and TA-DA! Perfect colour and a very happy boi

Just a small hair color reference of a simple process I tend to use quite often. 

Not only makes the hair look balanced, but it adds a certain anime-like or cartoonish feel to it. I will keep updating this small pieces for now until I'm able to work something more heavy.

No lo corté honguito pero sí, un poquito 🍄✨ I was actually holding myself back to not tell the hairdresser to go shorter on my hair lol still love the result and it feels fresh! Needed this after all that’s been going on. How are you guys doing?
